The grass isn't always greener the second time around, but he will want to try and put his Newcastle nightmare behind him.

It's hard to imagine how the conversation went that instigated the return.
I bet there a couple of 'sheepish' faces (do you like what I did there?) at the initial meeting.
It's all a bit odd and slightly embarrassing if you ask me.

Yes, i got it straight away Newcy, i bet there was a bit of nervousness on McClaren's part and the Derby County owner wanting to know he will have 100% commitment from McClaren. Some times it's not always good to look elsewhere, but McClaren would always ask himself what might have been if hadn't taken the Newcastle job. He will have to try and win over the fans again.

I thought Derby sacked him before he took the Newcastle job?

They did, due to him being continually linked to the Newcastle job and also pointed to results.

From what I've gleaned from the Media,Pro's/Ex Pro's etc he is a very good coach but a poor manager!

He appears to be highly thought of as a coach, his spells in charge of different clubs have been hit and miss, Middlesbrough and his first spell with FC Twente were successful, Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest, not good at all. He had plenty of money in his previous managerial role at Derby, play-off final his best return so far which ended in defeat. Less said about his time spell in charge of England.
