What's with this 'Brexit' It's 'Ukexit' as Northern Ireland is not in Britain.

The whole thing has been a disaster from the very start.

    No policies
    No plan

A sad result for us, for future generations and our friends in Europe

The Tories played Russian Roulette with our lives just for their own political ends and should be held to account over this

    You're mistaken.

Britain and United Kingdom mean the same thing.

Northern Ireland is part of Britain.

You're confusing Britain with Great Britain.

Great Britain is a geographical meaning, it is the big island to the west of Ireland.

Britain is a political entity, it refers to the United Kingdom, or to give it its full title, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

People get confused by Team GB (and many other inconsistent ways the words that refer to parts of the UK are used), but Team GB is just a brand name of the British Olympic Association, rather than anything formal, and it is reasonable to argue it would make more sense if it was called Team UK, but it isn't. The title GB also ignores various other entities that are part of Team GB but not part of Great Britain, such as all the other islands like Jersey.

We are better off out of that money pit - subsidised countries sending their youth for our kids jobs - then sending the dosh home to...wherever.....

Over simplification but saying WE are better in is also an over simplification - SOME BRITISH WILL BE BETTER OFF
the young workers will not !

Long term we'll still be exporting without being dragged into beurocracy of Europe!

It's the very large employers of minimum wage jobs that want an open door policy but they don't have to live in the ghetto's that are already forming.....

Stop reading the 'MAIL' ....you might get some unbiased information.

NO THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN !

    NOW....Should Smallwood come back ?

Actually the Tories campaigned for the Remain side and were responsible for Project Fear which said amongst other things, if you vote NO we will immediately go into recession - we didn't, GDP went up in the first quarter after the vote; if you vote NO we will have any emergency budget and put your taxes up - they didn't, Osbourne resigned instead, hooray; if you vote NO we will cut your pensions - well they didn't what rubbish that was; if you vote NO Nissan will leave Britain - actually they have announced their next two new designs will be built in Britain; if you vote NO 3 million manufacturing jobs will be lost - what twaddle. Since we joined the EU manufacturing has fallen from 30% of our GDP to less than 10%. Our trade deficit with the rest of the EU is presently £60 BILLION pounds every year which is equivalent to around one million manufacturing jobs. Our biggest export of all to the EU - JOBS

With regards to Nissan John, are you in favour of the government subsidising a Japanese company? Do you believe we should subsidise other industries?

Tony, sorry for the late reply but I have been off line for a while. The government has denied giving financial incentives to Nissan which I presume would be illegal under the EU rules we still live under anyway.

To answer your question directly, no I certainly do not agree with UK subsidies for foreign owned firms. But then I also believe that we should never have allowed foreign ownership of any of our core industries and services.

I do look forward to the United Kingdom being a global trading country once again but I don't follow that global corporatism ideal which lets global companies run roughshod over national governments.

I'm think you'll see that, being in a minority it seems, I support protectionism and UK ownership for the industries and services that are essential for our own national well being. It follows from that I agree that in times of need we provide financial support for them.

Do you support UK countries being able to expand into and buy out companies in foreign markets?

In the modern global marketplace, how do you even measure what is a UK company and what isn't? A company can be registered in one country, have entities in numerous others, be a major employer in another region completely, and have shareholders from all over the world. There's such a complex and interconnected web, I don't even know how proetectionist nationalism is even a viable pursuit in 2016.

With Brexit we've applied 1970's thinking to a globalised market. We're now so deeply linked there's no way out if we wanted to, we'd have to rebuild the entire system from scratch. That's why we're screwed by the enormous and impossible burden of now trying to tear ourselves apart.

The Brexit doom mongers were wrong to say our economy would crash instantly, but I'd bet my bottom dollar they wont be half as optimistic a year from now when the outlook is looking even gloomier than Brexit tinted specs can handle.

"Since we joined the EU manufacturing has fallen from 30% of our GDP to less than 10%"

Do you honestly believe this is because we joined the EU?

It's called China. The US manufacturing industry has fallen to similar levels... and they didn't join the EU.
