I know Hood is from the Springburn area of Glasgow and my Dad played against him in a cup final for his works team, Lewis' when Hood wasn't supposed to be, as he must have been a Clyde player at the time. They lost the final but were awarded the cup, as it was later found out who Hood was. My Dad was left back and was supposed to be marking him but couldn't see him for dust, he was that quick. Hood said to them before the game "Wait and see this goal I'm going to score" and lashed the ball in from from out.

The days of signing a player from amateur teams are long gone. Newmilns Vesuvius were a top amateur team in the 1990s and early 2000s.
