I’ll watch the highlights at 7pm on Cooncil+.

Had a great day at Saltaire’s ground on Saturday watching a first XI Airedale and Wharfedale Senior Leagues match. Great facility in a public park, with even an electronic scoreboard which bears a plaque commemorating Jim Laker, no less, whose mesmerising spin was first put into action at Saltaire.

Bilton all out for 118 in 24 overs, Saltaire 120-4 off about 18. Scorching sunshine, good cricket, a mini-tantrum from the home no 3 given LBW, and a licensed café just along the boundary.

No admission charge, and the pandemic has halted the collection taken from spectators meantime, so I’ll bung them 20 quid as a small token of gratitude.

Salts CC has an even better facility about 200 yards away, which I discovered when strolling along the Liverpool-Leeds Canal towpath the following day.

Proper Mannies’ cricket.
