    On this day

20th December 1983 Dons win the UEFA Super Cup.
The 1983 UEFA Super Cup was a two-legged match contested between the European Cup champions Hamburger SV, and the European Cup Winners' Cup champions Aberdeen.
The match was tied at 0–0 in the first leg at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. However, in the second leg at Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen added their second ever European trophy with a 2–0 victory over the Germans with goals coming from Mark McGhee and Neil Simpson.
Aberdeen are the only Scottish team to win two European trophies.

Not proper Euro trophies though are they - let's be honest here. Apart from Aberdeen fans everyone else regards at least one of them as a wee bit Mickey Mouse...

Come on Jack,We all know if either of the O.F had done this we would never hear the end of "Only Scottish team tae win two European Trophies".A bit like the most successful team in the entire history of world fitba because they won a two horse race.

Brilliant representatives of Scottish fitba. It was a great day for Scotland in general, and Scottish fitba in particular, and only churlish small-minded people would try to denigrate Aberdeen's great and unique (in Scotland) achievement.

It really was a fantastic era for Scottish football and a truly outstanding achievement by Aberdeen winning 2 euro trophies.

The jealousy of the small minded idiots who try to poo poo it is still evident even after so many years.

An era which was brought to an end by the cheating carried out at the now dead club who spent hundreds of millions of pounds funelled through Murray's companies. Even with Murray pensioners defrauded of £22m, the vermin still won't apologise. Disgusting club, its death was welcomed by all right-minded people.

Too right they are, it was a fantastic achievement, even with Dingus scoring.
It will never be equalled - it was a time when Scottish sides had some credibility abroad.

Need to take issue here Jack, I have massive respect for Celtic's achievement in Europe first UK club to win the European Cup and did so with an all Scottish Team playing some of the best attacking fitba thats ever been seen, Not so much for Rangers as it was fairly tarnished by a pitch invasion that may well effected the outcome. However Aberdeen' Euro super cup victory is as valid as any trophy won. To beat the European Champions over two game is no mean feat. Respect please.
