But we are talking about the centre of our defence that incidentally played all season and the goals went in and in record numbers. There wasn't a manager after AS went and Warne is culpable for playing open football when we should have adopted Cloughie's tough to beat tactics as played under Stubbs.

The problem then wasn't the tactics - it was the players who WOULDN'T or COULDN'T get it !

And Wood is front and centre of all that !

Stubbs dropped him and he was right !

    Now we've got a mates team - brilliant !

Forget Stubbs - how many conceded - who played most in a key position....do the maths....

What maths do you want doing? PW team let in less goals on average per game (2) than AS team (2.4). PW team had a better win percentage (14.8% ) than AS team (7.69%). PW team had a better points per game (.56) than AS team (.46).

As for mates did Stubbs know Andy Holden before he was his assistant, how many managers don’t know there their assistant beforehand? Also wasn’t Wilson one of Stubbs mates?

We had the stats' argument and comparing the first few matches of the championship season to the whole season is simply illogical. Assessment of new players and in a variety of positions will cause understandable collateral damage....

But PW knew the strengths and weaknesses of his mates so to have stats for the season to be actually worse than the opening games is a disaster.

    From memory....

Goals scored under AS: 1.07 / game

Season long goals ....0.7 / game

Goals conceded 10 disastrous goals against in first 5 matches the 3 + 3 + 4 were away as well...after that changes worked but individual errors kept meaning certain players needed to go....

But to brag that that last 33 matches goal conceded even gets near the early games is a joke !

Time will tell - I hope they do well naturally but keeping Wood is a mistake in my opinion...league one is more forgiving YES but that's precisely why we should be building the confidence of youth.....playing wise everyone sees Wood was culpable time and again.

If on a pay per play then squad player while Wood studies to be a writer with his "writer mates".....Reading some of the Wood write up's - they're pretty good mates too !

Why can't goals conceded be used, you are using goals scored because its in his favour. What else is there to go on?

mike, I was on the understanding Tom Maguire had broken his leg, late March time.

Akeel Francis looks a decent lad for next season.
