If there's one thing that's going to be our downfall this season; its our inconsistency.

Sometimes in football you can often see a sign of things to come with how you start the game. I just though last night we had no tempo to our play. Palace did well playing high up and stopping the outlet from Patricio to our wing-backs. Hence why Patricio had to go long, aiming for Doherty and more times than not the ball going out of play. Boly had a shaky start, got booked, slipped when in possession and gave the ball away, but so did his team-mates.

Wolves though with chances limited to Jiminez firing over should really have scored from a corner with Boly and Doherty having headers which one or the other should have put wolves in front.

We were expecting greater urgency from Wolves in the second half, but that didn’t materialise. Though we enjoyed more possession we were still not creating and Palace were looking dangerous.

Out of the two sides if there was to be a goal, then Palace would score it. The warning signs were there with a goalmouth scramble that Wolves some how cleared their lines. But the defending for Ayew's goal left a lot to be desired. He was left on his own and couldn't miss. It says a lot from a performance when the opposition keeper doesn't make a save until Neves' deflected effort was turned away. I have no complaints regarding the penalty award. Bennett gave the ref no choice.

Palace deserved their victory, Wolves having looked so good second half against Spurs, looked half hearted at best against Palace. The crowd once the first goal went in also seemed to back off with the vocal support. But we are on a learning curve and 29 points at this stage of the season is a good return. Our game seems suited against the top sides.

I thought the crowd was quiet all game to be honest, probably doesn’t help having the away fans in the North Bank, to far for any ‘banter’ with the South Bank.

The game last evening was a bit like a game of chess with both sides playing the same moves. After about ten minutes I said to the chap who sits next to me, "This has all the makings of a 0-0 draw", and so it nearly was. As Gav said there was no tempo to Wolves play, while Palace looked the more likely to score.. We don't seem to be able to beat sides that play like we do.

Bennett, Boly and Coady probably had more touches of the ball than any players on the pitch, but much of the possession was from back passes. Raking fifty and sixty yard passes from Bennett and Coady, out to the wings, were too often played backwards to the keeper or back three. We did not have a player on the pitch last night that was capable of getting the ball to the goal line and putting a cross in.

Boly picked up an early yellow for an innocuous tackle and that seemed to affect him for a while, getting caught in possession on a couple of occasions. Jimenez again was a tireless worker up front but he needs a Jota by his side. We do miss him.

Palace had players who could move forward with the ball and take people on while we seemed abject. We had a few half chances but as the game wore on the visitors sensed a victory and laid siege on our goal. You could sense a goal was imminent and there was a stunned silence when it arrived. Having watched it today Ayew was offside, when he received the ball. Neves had a deflected shot saved before a cruel thrust of the dagger gave them a last minute penalty.

The had beaten Man City away earlier this month so they were never going to be a pushover. They have some excellent players and one wonders why they are so low in the table. I think any sensible Wolves supporter would have been delighted, if in August they had been told that we would start the new year in ninth place in the Premier League.
