    Portugal Good on you

    Sorry forgot to prefix O/T

Portuguese are installing fast track admission for British tourists in the event of a no deal brexit

Portugal’s government has authorised the installation of dedicated UK Passport holder corridors at two of its airports to enable the smooth flow of post-Brexit holidaymakers.

Prime Minister, António Costa, stated that, “Millions of Britons visit Portugal as tourists every year, we have to ensure the flow is not interrupted.”

The first two sites to be prepared are the Algarve's Faro airport and Funchal airport on Madeira, both of which will install and operate special facilities for passengers with UK passports.

The prime minister also announced a raft of measures to help Portuguese businesses that may well be hit by the UK’s exit from the European Community if gthere is no last minute deal, the so-called, ‘hard Brexit.’

What a sensible step to take

A country that values our input into their economy. My two weeks in September is booked as always, Compnfident that whatever happens, the Portuguese will not turn their backs on us. This is of course, providing the EU doesn’t arm twist the Portuguese into abandoning their plans on the pain of withdrawal of financial support.

    Obrigado Portugal,

You are a marketing man’s dream, Exile.

Think about it for a moment.

Faro and Funchal are essentially tourist airports. At the moment, most, if not all of the incoming flights will be from EU/EFTA countries with the vast majority of passengers carrying EU/EFTA passports. If there are ‘non-EU passport holder’ lanes at them, then they probably aren’t manned most of the time, because they get no traffic.

If and when the UK leaves the EU, there will suddenly be a large number of non-EU passport holders coming through the airports. In other words, the airports are going to need more non-EU lanes and fewer EU/EFTA lanes. And given that the vast majority of the non-EU passport holders will be British, why not engage in a bit of marketing and call them UK passport holder lanes?

If dedicated UK lanes were opened at an international hub airport within the EU – Frankfurt, Schipol or Paris CDG - then that would be impressive. This isn’t. It’s marketing, plain and simple.

I'm fully aware it's marketing but what isn't these days?
Portugal of course recognises on which side it's bread's buttered

[Faro is an International hub airport since 2010 btw]

Thankyou you say the nicest things

But I think it is infinitely preferable to being a Message board nightmare modelled on a third rate sci fi series

If Spain has any sense it would follow Portugal's example
