Pick 5 Winners Competition 2019/20 Season Table and Chat

The only point I'd make, Brin, is that it shifts the balance of the competition. Hitherto, the emphasis has been on predicting results (it is, after all, the Pick 5 Winners Competition), with a bonus point added for the goals tally. If this change is implemented, you could have a situation whereby someone correctly predicts a creditable 4 out of 5 winners but is outscored by someone else who gets all his predictions wrong but the goal tally right. In effect, it becomes a Guess the Goals contest with bonus points for correct results.

If you really want to shake things up week by week but maintain the main thrust of the competition, why not award (5/10) bonus points to those who 'Pick 5 Winners', which has happened on very many occasions this season. (Don't know why I'm suggesting this, it's like Liverpool voting for a rules change because they're so far ahead in the League ).

I'm with you on this one Leeds and it's also why I questioned giving the 5pts on Saturday without it being a 'bonus' for getting all 11 results correct as well. As I said my preference is to set the rules at the start of the season and stick with them. From experience I realise that in doing this, once players are out of contention they start to lose interest.

Maybe keep the rules as is i.e. double points for getting ALL correct whatever ALL might be e.g. 5 most weeks but maybe introduce a few weeks of 7 or 8 etc culminating in 11 on the last day of the season. Likewise keep the goal points at 1 rising to 5 only when accompanied with getting ALL correct.

Sorry - scratch that last comment as I just realised double points is not the current rule.

LeedsMiller, excellent valid points, what was I thinking of? You are correct, in that after the New Year, some think 'what the heck I'm so far behind' and pack in like last season. Going forward starting from the 4th Jan on the FA Cup 3rd round, I will start with whoever gets all five predictions correct, will get 10 points instead of 5. The continuation of 1 point for correctly guessing the goal tally, will remain.

I thank you once agin for invaluable insight to this matter. I was merely trying to keep everyone involved and i'm sure this will be accepted by all and make the league more interesting. I will now announce this on another thread.

Well here we go with the latest updated table for games played today, 26th December. This has been far easier to work out than last week! No one hit the magic 5/5 but there were 3 people who correctly said that there would be a total of 28 goals scored today. The winners of the bonus point were, Lolmorgan, Millertop and Parkgate Welfare, well done chaps.

There was only one person who failed to score any points and that accolade goes to CTMilller. Never mind, it could happen to anyone. There's always next week to improve on.

Don't forget, on the 4th January 2020, if you get all 5/5 correct then you get a whopping 10 points! The goal tally will remain the same on 1 point.

Don't worry, Brin. I'm not reaching for the cut-throat yet! I've been doing the Premiership Fantasy League for the first time this year and so far I'm in the top 4% out of 7.5 million punters so I'm redeeming myself on that front. Also I was in a fairly dire position in last year's MM contest at this point last year and finished up winning it. As with last year the proposed rule changes going into 2020 give everybody a great chance of coming from behind (don't start...)so that's always uplifting...
