534 visiting fans-that is impressive for a friendly at Shrewsbury and I reckon VK was surprised.

There's nothing new under the sun, I remember that ginger manager we had, the one that wouldn't give the kids a chance, in his first few years I watched all the pre-season friendlies, and there they all were, playing alongside the first team players, Alex-Ray Harvey, Wes Fletcher, Shay McCartan, Tom Anderson, Cameron Dummigan, Alex Macdonald, Luke Daly, Steven Hewitt, Jason Gilchrist, Luke Conlan and a few more whose names escape me now. In particular one tall, lanky left-winger, not totally unlike Dwight McNeill, looked very promising, very skilful, I think he went back up to Scotland, anyone recall who he was ?

Anyway, fat lot of good it did them all, none of them ever made it.

A couple of seasons back me and the lad went to Millwall in the "League Cup". Brownhill scored with a screamer, but my abiding memory of that night was how well Bobby Thomas played at centre back. Dyche never game him a look in after that, and I think that will be the major difference between Vinny and and SD, one will put his trust in kids and one never did.

Dyche trusted his judgement, and he was possibly the best judge of a young player I've ever known. I don't know exactly, but he must have seen in excess of 200 youngsters in our academy and dev squad teams in his time here. Of those, he only ever gave one an extended run in the first team, and he turned out to be a PL class winger. None of the others, not a single one in all that time, has gone elsewhere and proved him wrong. That looks like a 100% record to me, quite remarkable, as David Coleman used to say.

Interesting who did not get a run out last night.

Twine is injured already, apparently. No JGB - presumably on the physio’s bench already (his pre-season training), no McNeil and no Cornet. Being saved for their new clubs?

I am not sure about the wisdom of the Portugal trip - forest fires, 110 plus temperatures. VK getting them used to the Burnley climate, no doubt!
