Indeed. A new flu pandemic would be something to behold though. Fortunately there are antivirals, and a 'flu jab that works most of the time with the variants of the virus in circulation. Flu and Covid19 this winter though? Not a good combination.

The reason why some of this is being handled badly? The powers that be binned their pandemic plan a while back, hence the continual reactive nature of measures being taken.

    Hmmmm.
Why do you need to limit the measured period to try and justify your point.
Surely a broader timescale is more reflective of the morbidity rate.
It’s been 8 months since the UK had a case and there’s no way that the flu will have contributed to 1/2 million deaths in those 8 months

Yup it isn't a useful comparison, and needs a year of data including a 'flu season to draw a comparison. But 'flu and covid19 aren't the same - other than being respiratory viruses that is. A bit of a silly argument, given that one is in the ascendancy and the other soon will be.

Also, it's not purely a respiratory virus...in the sense that it doesn't just cause respiratory problems. I have just dropped a patient at a hospital in England and they have covid patients, young 30 to 50 that are in ICU with no serious underlying conditions and more than just respiratory problems. It's not just about deaths, it's about how many end up needing intensive care. Maybe the above patients will make it with the critical care they are receiving...but if the numbers grow we have the potential of demand for ICU outstripping supply. It seems people want to see the bodies pile up...only then will they go by 'aye ok, maybe it's not a hoax'...

That’s the Tories lost it altogether now.

I’ll meet you in the pub for a pint, but we have to pretend we don’t know each other.

    It’s point and laugh stuff.

They’re all making it up as they go along, with logic a caualty.

We’re nae allowed to visit relatives’ houses, yet I know my nephew has a driving lesson later today, where the instructor isn’t in his family group, and where 2m social distancing is impossible.

The process is that the nouveau-riche ****ers in Westminster announce some caught in the headlights measure, and the FM rubbishes it before applying the same ruling, with a tartan ribbon, 5-10 days later.

And did you see that floundering incompetent Lochead, Minister for HE, totally out of his depth and blethering like Kevin Stewart at his most articulate on The Nine last night? John Curran’s quine ran rings roon him like her Maroon aul man did to Highland League full backs in the 1970s.

    Incompetence at every level.

    Beware charisma.

Don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters.

Then again, that’s like saying you are a better baby sitter than Kate McCann
