I am not saying this with hindsight but I said months ago the problems that would arise if universities were to open as per normal. They did and it has! It was obvious, to me anyway, that they would be breeding grounds for the disease. Schools, not quite the same, so I wasn't against that. I live in a small village in an area which is close to going into the high tier. Guess what is in our area, Loghborough University. The figures were extremely low until the new term. Coincidence? I don't think so.

At the moment no...although we have had to open up our Covid ward because our isolation rooms are all full with VRE, MRSA CPe and all the others bugs that need isolation.
They get admitted onto the ward where they are treated and if and when they deteriorate, they come to the ICU.
Underlining conditions play a big part and seeing as many are obese and have Diabetes and such...there conditions can change quickly... We have changed out early practices from last March/April time as more information is gained and of course more younger people are getting it so they usually are more obese then older people.......but the infections numbers are coming in around 1,000 a day for now...
We shall see......so far no sign of a winter strain of flu which is good news....

Germany, France, Belgium now going into lockdown.

Our turn a week or two from now.

    BUILD THE F U C K I N G HEALTH PROVISION TO COPE WITH THE PROBLEM BORIS!!

Start today because it’ll take 3-5 years to sort this build out.

Be seen to be doing it on your watch FFS!

If Labour are bright enough to promise to do this they’ll romp the next election.

I reckon Sunak would do this, so if Boris continues to f u c k this up he’ll be gone next year.

We need a respiratory unit of quality in every decent sized town......no messing, just sort it!

Irish Government very concerned about Public Health now.........going to have to be rethinks across the Globe on this one me thinks....
It’s really interesting ready posts made by Dubs over the past few months, he’s always way ahead of the curve on Covid.

Read back to July and August and you’ll see he was warning us what was coming.

We are now in for what is going to feel like a very long and very bleak winter.

At least we have the football to cheer us up.

The writing was on the wall as soon as economics became the main point of decision making on the virus Mick.
The banking collapse of 2008 was the fore runner of how things can change quickly. Money was printed and debt incurred to save corrupt banking institutions in a systems that was already falling apart.

Today this invisible virus is causing even more havoc to a dysfunctional financial system. Yet financial markets have all but recovered their losses from first quarter.
    How come?
    Why?
Well while the general population has struggled to continue to meet personal financial obligations and stay afloat...the top wealthy individuals have massively increased their personal wealth during the pandemic.
This is immoral as well as a corrupt practice.
It goes against the mistaken believe that the economy is the great decider of success. 2008 collapse showed that in this system it is not the strong and healthy but the corrupt and sick companies that survive....
Oh and give the worker a hand out with 3/4 payment of wages.
Meanwhile the virus carries on because medical decisions are ignored like your own calling for proper investment in health. You can see Mick.....

We are over 2 weeks into a level 5 lockdown. Numbers are turning in the right directions. Our ward discharged our lady Covid patient...ICU numbers are holding steady. People have for the most part got on with it...so ok at the moment.
But Europe and the UK...looks appalling. I think it is keeping us all here focused as to what can happen quickly....Was told that Northern Ireland wants to send patients over the border for treatment as their health system is operating at 110% at this time. Lots been admitted....real pressure.
Have to remember also that we haven't had any cold weather yet and it is still only October...😳😳

A most interesting development from Denmark.....

Denmark has announced special restrictions for more than 280,000 people in the country's northwest after a mutated version of the new coronavirus linked to mink farms was found in humans.

Copenhagen warned that the mutation could threaten the effectiveness of any future vaccine.

"From tonight, citizens in seven areas of north Jutland are strongly encouraged to stay in their area to prevent the spread of infection," Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told a news conference.
She said people were being ordered not to travel there, while bars and restaurants would also shut.
"We are asking you in north Jutland to do something completely extraordinary," Frederiksen said, talking of a "real closure" of the region.

"The eyes of the world are on us," she added.
Public transport in the region will be shut down with buses and trains stopped from entering or leaving.
Some schoolchildren will have to follow their classes online in restrictions that are due to last a month.

Denmark, the world's largest exporter of mink fur, raised concerns on Wednesday by announcing the slaughter of all mink in the country - numbering 15 to 17 million spread over 1,080 farms - following the discovery of the mutation which can be passed to humans.
The mutation has already been detected in 12 people - 11 cases in the region being closed down, and one in another.

Department in contact with Irish mink farms
Here, the Department of Agriculture says no animal in Ireland has tested positive for Covid-19.

It says it has been following developments worldwide in relation to Covid in animals, including mink.
Responding to a query from RTÉ News, the Department said it has written to mink farms in Ireland, on a number of occasions this year.
There are three mink farms in Ireland; in Donegal, Laois and Kerry.

It says it is continuing to engage with the farms to provide information on SARS-CoV-2 infection in mink and to advise on the implementation of biosecurity measures to prevent their mink being exposed to the virus.
No mink have been imported into Ireland during 2020.

    Virus mutations 'often harmless'

Scientists say virus mutations are common and often harmless.
Some experts have nevertheless called on Denmark to release more scientific data to better evaluate this one.
According to Danish authorities, this virus mutation does not cause a more severe illness in humans.

But it is not inhibited by antibodies to the same degree as the normal virus, which they fear could threaten the efficacy of coronavirus vaccines that are being developed around the world.
In north Jutland, health authorities believe around 5% of coronavirus patients could be carrying this mutated strain, but no recent case has been reported.

As such, Viggo Andreasen, epidemiology professor at Roskilde University, said the mutation had "quite a good chance" of disappearing, as long as it is effectively contained.
Denmark has been relatively spared from the ravages of Covid-19 with 733 deaths reported.
However, new national restrictions were imposed in October to curb a rapid spike in cases.
