When does political opinion become political point scoring? Political decisions will have a big impact on how we handle this crisis. Are we all supposed to say "Boris is doing a really great job" even if we don't think he is? Is complaining about the way health workers have been forced to do their jobs with insufficient PPE a valid point which should be highlighted, or is it political point scoring?

Sids post is simply gloating that the tories cant deliver their manifesto as they have a far bigger crisis to handle. In what way is that not point scoring? Please explain how comments like "But not all the consequences of this virus have been for the worse." and "It would not dare to do any other for fear of appearing heartless" is not point scoring? He is over the moon that the tories cant deliver their manifesto. There is a massive difference between agreeing or otherwise that someone is doing a great job, or not than gloating over the fact that a political party cant deliver their manifesto because they are trying ( badly or well it doesnt matter for the sake of this) to fix a major problem. If you cant see that then you have even more tunnel vision that I thought you did.

There's no such time when you should not be able to criticise the Government. Anything else is totalitarianism.

If Corbyn's Labour was commandeering this crisis, would the extreme, far-right nutters on here be saying "We have to get behind the Govt" or would they be laying into Corbyn, whatever he did?

Just for starters, this is the Government that has systematically run down the NHS at every opportunity and is on course to condemn 1000s of people to death through its mishandling of this pandemic.

We need to have influence for when the next pandemic or call to war comes around by electing a Government that truly represents the people and not just big business. We have to keep holding the rich and powerful to account. Let's continue.

How would you have handled things differently?

The quick reply is that the knowledge of the virus' severity was known to all and there was still ample time to act in order to minimise the impact and to save lives. To do what other countries had already started doing. This is not the power of hindsight, the information was there.

But what did the likes of Johnson and Trump do? Only look at the problem from the economic angle not the human (not a surprise). There should have been shutdowns and restrictions way, way earlier. Even the tory press was reporting that flight-loads of passengers were arriving from Italian hotspots and walking through airports unchecked. Schools should have closed. Work from home and social distancing measures instituted much earlier, the NHS properly equipped. It's very well-documented, Queensland, the govt has been behind the curve every step of the way.

The 'herd immunity' phase of the response was crazy. Let it run rampant, 'you will lose loved ones' but whatever we do let's not disrupt the economy (this has been the running theme in everything Trump has said too).

Unlike other saner countries, we have had the great misfortune to be governed by people who are not in politics to safeguard the well-being of the people, but rather to run the economy and the country for the benefit of the rich and powerful.

It'd be funny, if it wasn't so tragic. Members of this Govt being in charge of the greatest public health crisis for 100 years. What? We're supposed to look after people? Totally alien to them.

I don't believe right now is the time to score political points but Sid can post his views on what he wants, it's a free country. If you think Labour were in power and all those on this thread on the right would be 100% behind him and berating those who said otherwise due to the virus then you're living in dream land.

    Hypocrites.

Be careful anticlough, posting that makes perfect sense could have you charged with sedition or labelled a traitor and incure a 60 pounds on the spot fine (reduced to 30 if you pay the man in the black helicopter who's just landed on your front lawn)

30 quid offered, but waived when I pointed out the chopper had squashed all me geraniums.
