Dundee vote in favour of SPFL proposal

The Courier is reporting that Dundee flipped and told the SPFL that they are in favour of the proposal. That being the case and assuming the vote is accepted, the lower leagues are ended on a points per game basis.

The board can now choose to finish the Premiership season.

Vote accepted - reconstruction ahead....

‘The SPFL board has also committed to consult on possible league restructuring in time for season 2020/21 around an expanded Premiership model and has appointed Hearts chair Ann Budge and Hamilton Academical chair Les Gray to jointly lead a reconstruction task force.’

The process has been farcical but common sense reached at the end. There should certainly be an investigation into the vote.

Presumably Budge is on the reconstruction committee to assure those of that nature the talks will be entered into in good faith and ensure there are no legal challenges. But it's still a big challenge to find something that will pass an 11-1 top-flight vote later. I don't especially like the split but everyone's used to it, it's an awkward fudge which ticks a lot of boxes for Scottish football and if you thought self-interest played a role in the last vote, that'll be nothing compared to what comes next...

On the assumptions that the season is over but that 'null and void' is a non -starter, it's really hard to see what they can come up with. There will always be a '1' against any plan which awards the title to Celtic. That said, the principle and precedent that you can win a title when you are still 'catchable' has been set. Principle and practice, though, are two different things and, as HD says, let battle commence.
Some fancy footwork may have moved the issue a wee bit further away from lawyers' offices, but there will be a few clubs wondering how a vote cast within the correct 28 - day timescale can be uncast by a club which potentially stands to gain from the un - casting.

Putting her on the committee effectively guarantees the safety of a club with the worst record in the league and deserves relegation. Reconstruction should be handled by clubs without such a level of self-interest.
Hearts get off the hook & gain 2.5 - 3 million based on her own claims that's what they stand to lose in relegation.
In other words thats what Hearts stands to gain from her being able to rig a reconstruction despite Hearts voting against the proposal.

Hearts should go down & 3 clubs come up if the top league is to expand.
If Hearts stay up then perhaps that's 2.5 - 3 million Hearts should distribute to other clubs in the top division, including Motherwell, to partially compensate for the drop in income after reconstruction to all existing top flight clubs.

You have a point, ok - no promotion, let Dundee United stay down below, can't be having both of them in the Premiership as they both have far bigger budgets. They can't come up since their league wasn't completed.

The thing is is now incredibly hard to agree a new system without conflicts of interest everywhere because we've set up a system that keeps cash song a few clubs and makes relegation an existential threat.

I imagine Dundee insisted on budge being involved to change their vote. But I'm still not convinced her committee will find a solution which appeals to everyone and if not the current system obviously stays.
