Thread: Keir starmer

  1. #21
I posted way before coronavirus we have a Tory Govt with Socialist economic policies.

I don't really think we will be skint either but neither do I believe it's as easy as you make out. I'd gladly give up a few £100 quid a month if it was going direct to the NHS, Problem is if the 10 or so in our group all give up that money then we won't be out eating and drinking out so often, I won't be replacing my running gear as often, I won't be watching the Albion so often, and I'll be spending less on the house and garden so that's less jobs in all those industries whose employees will be on the dole instead of paying tax.

The answers are out there somewhere. I have one thought. The basic state pension is £9000 pa. If that is all that is going into household I don't know anyone can survive on such an amount. If there are 2 in a household receiving the basic it's £18000 pa and I think that is too much. Paying pensions out per household would presumably save £billions.

As a pensioner I do think it's the young who have been hit hardest financially and us old uns have to take are share of the financial burden.

For all our sakes I hope you are right then. Sunglasses are never a good look.

The big difference also compared to 1945 is that we are far less of a compliant and deferent nation than we were back then. All through his life my father called people like the doctor sir and ordinary people new their place. Now everyone is looking for someone to blame and it is usually the establishment, business leaders, anyone except themselves.

Once all this settles and the inevitable blame starts the people at the top are in for a really rough ride in my opinion. Yes they have done a lot right but inevitably hindsight is likely to show that they have been slow on some things as well. The focus will, as already, be on what has not been done right or not quickly enough.

People will forget all the handouts and financial support coming to so many. When and if we have a deep recession or at least real austerity comes, then there will be easy pickings for both opposition and critics.

The North and Midlands got the Government in, we are likely to struggle the hardest in real financial difficulties and therefore do not count your chickens. Everything is going to change and as we have seen in many countries across Europe in real austerity (not the soft stuff we have had so far) then extreme changes happen against the ruling parties and establishment.

I just love the 'everyone looking for someone else to blame, anyone except themselves comment.'

Wife and I have really impressed on our kids before you blame schools, police, goverment, housing, society and even your parents look first at yourself. Whilst if you have a tough upbringing for whatever reason it can make life more difficult there are plenty of kids who have bad experiences and come good.

I normally agree with you mate but not on this.

I come from humble beginnings with my grandads being a postman and a bus driver and my mum worked in a corner shop and my dad was a sales rep.

I was a petrol pump attendant when I left school and then spent years in a menswear shop but I took a chance at 36 and set up my own business with very little money.

I made good and I’ve done well thankfully.

How you can say that someone like me couldn’t rise to political high office is beyond me.

Just because you become wealthy does not mean you forget your roots fella!!!

Got to say, I didn’t vote the tories at the last election but since then.. with Brexit decided then, I thought the mood of the nation lifted. I wasn’t convinced by Boris at first but when he shuffled his cabinet back then he talked positively about investing. Maybe he wasn’t a bad choice afterall. So now you know my stance on the Tories you’ll hopefully take what I say next not as a tory bashing opportunity. I’ve been impressed with what the government has done to date with this pandemic, however don’t you think that in all this Mr Hancock is such a weak link? The guy comes across as way out of his depth. There was this tv interview the other day with him and Hunt. Hancock just didn’t seem to be on his level. Be interested to hear your thought.

I couldn’t agree more Regis and I’ve said exactly the same in other threads on here.

I’ve said that I can’t work out if Hancock is inept or just a compulsive liar.......I’m erring on it being both.

You watch his reaction to literally ANY question........you can see the cogs slowly turning as he looks up into his own head to reach for the next lie.

It takes him two or three seconds to start each reply and then the next 10-15 seconds he obfuscates and either repeats the question or thanks the questioner for asking the question......this is merely a “holding pattern” whilst he fumbles for an answer or fudges an answer or just blatantly lies.

Watch the comparison between him and Sunak.......Rishi replies instantly and the reason he can do this is because his brain is recalling the truth.

There is something deeply unlikeable and shifty about Hancock.

The same goes for that female health minister who Piers Morgan skewered the other day.....another inept LIAR!

Ashok Sharma and that Nawaz ( I think!? ) bloke also liars and stonewallers who answer the question they wish had been asked rather than the one that was.

Robert Jenrick is another smarmy d I c k head as well.

Thank god it’s Cummings,Boris and Sunak running the show because the back up crew are f king useless.

After all this Hunt needs reinstating as Health Minister in my opinion.

You’ve summed him up so well there Mick. That is exactly what he’s been like. My wife who works for the NHS (not in ICU) agrees how inept he is and she’s not one to ever be critical of anyone.
I think Hunt would be a great choice over Hancock, but I worry with the history with the Junior Doctors saga is something not ideal or good timing. The daggers be out. I think someone of his calibre is very much needed though.
Hancock and his choice of words doesn’t help either. “If he had a magic wand he’d make sure all PPE were supplied”. FFS, this was an issue a month ago and he answers like that.
