    New ground

Ok, so....I;m putting this up just so we can discuss something else while we're waiting for news on the takeover-not knowing either way has killed most other topics.

If we had to move, where would be a good/suitable place to build a new stadium? (let's not worry about the fact that it would only happen if the takeover happened).

I know we were talking previously about either extending the ground with that massive corner by the Milburn/Leazes or using the scrub land by the Leazes student flats but I don't think either of those would be chosen ahead of, say, a new build somewhere else. I think the logisitcs of extending the ground would prove too problematical and I don;t think we'd ever get planning permission for developing that part of the 'Moor'.

I've been using the Hadrian's Way cycle path a lot recently and that runs past Segedunum and Swan Hunter on one side and on the other is a huge derelict plot and, actually, all along the river there seem to be large, empty plots. When the Metro Arena shuts, is that a viable location (would have to incorporate some surrounding land, too). Any other locations?

For me, it has to be north of the Tyne regardless of the fact that Gateshead is black and white (or the Heed).

    Thoughts?

They have the money to buy out everything surrounding St James Park. I’m sure they will

I think it’s shutting and a new one is being built on the Gateshead Quays, Sage area.

No, it's only the ones behind the East Stand, Pat. There are plans for the land behind the Gallowgate (Strawberry PLace) and a load of new builds just opposite the Milburn/Gallowgate corner.

You could get about 60K capacity or so by building over the road behind Gallowgate to extend the upper tier to three sides but it would be costly due to the metro tunnels etc. and would rely on stopping up or building over adopted highway - i.e the road & footpaths and would in all likelihood be objected to by the new owners of the land Jabba asset stripped but there’ll be an engineering solution, ownership solution & highway solution if all parties are willing and the city council is on board. I’m sure someone has posted a mock up of this on here before.

That's what I was posting about Zip, Leazes Terrace which is untouchable. It's all along the length of that side which reduces the possibility a major increase in the seating area. If only it could be built up about 15 feet higher it would make a trmendous difference, but it's restricted by the line of sight regulations.
