History is being re-written by those in charge, this has quite rightly got people of all political persuasions angry.

Next time we are issued with new instructions by the government in regard to COVID-19 the question will be asked whether we all have to adhere to them if we really don't want to. It's no longer policeable whilst this man keeps his job and members of the cabinet continue to feel the need to offer up ridiculous excuses.
Completely agree. Adherence to the lockdown is the short term problem, and a big one too.

The longer-term problem is that as I said before this is electoral kryptonite. The latest polls say even a majority of Brexiters think he should resign or be sacked. I imagine a lot of them are the new 'red Tories' from old Labour heartlands.

There are the Brexit ultras (we have a few on here) who worship Cummings and Boris and will turn a blind eye to anything, but the majority are rightly angry about it. It's like the Corbyn effect but on the other side of the spectrum.

Unfortunately for Boris, without Cummings he loses the brains of the operation and reverts to just being a glorified after dinner speaker doing one of the most difficult jobs in the world in the middle of a crisis. No amount of stuttering, hair tugging and squashing the sombrero will see him through that if he hasn't got a plan.

    Piers Morgan:
"Michael Gove is trending No1 in the UK.
It’s because nobody believes a word he’s saying.
So many cabinet ministers are destroying their own reputations at the altar of saving a lying, hypocrite adviser. Quite extraordinary."

... BFP wide of the mark as usual. DC is not a bureaucrat. He despises the establishment. Think of him as more akin to Machiavelli, or perhaps, to help you, the Vinny Jones of politics. Hence he makes lots of enemies but he's ok with that ...

Crazyfists, can’t believe your lack of respect to one of the best marketeers and manufacturers Seriouspie’s imagination has ever seen.

Doctors, nurses, teachers, shop workers, pebble crusher salesmen, they’re all key workers in my book.

It's a lot worse than that - he takes a pride in creating enemies. He wants to be seen as defiant, something he portrays in his body language, his dress sense, his words and his actions.
He is Rasputin and Svengali rolled into one and sees himself as the master puppeteer. He has openly said he wants to destroy the Civil service in its present form and remodel it in the US style whereby rather than appointing people who are politically neutral, ministers can appoint those of their own political persuasion. I think this is a bad idea whether it is applied to the left or the right.
Our Civil Service is the envy of the world - yes, it can be a slow and lumbering machine but it's open to scrutiny and has a sense of fairness.

... the trouble is, Snobhead 2, the Civil Service became politicised in the days of Harold Wilson. Cosy deals were done with CSU, unknown to Jo public, and departments were expanded with employees encouraged to 'understand' where their bread was and would be buttered. This also extended into education, when comprehensive education was introduced. You'd be pushed to find a Head who wasn't 'left' leaning. DC wants to route out this cancer; he'd prefer to use the knife but may have to apply medicine.

I've just read that Matt Hancock has said this:

Mr Hancock said "he believed Dominic Cummings behaved within the guidelines and did not think he undermined the government's messaging. However, he said reasonable people could disagree and he could understand people's anger".

In other words, he knows that the actions of Cummings are indefensible, but Boris has told him that he can't cope without him so they all have to pretend that what he did was ok. At the same briefing, he also said "The government commits to "look at" rescinding fines for people breaking lockdown for childcare reasons". Again, its a stark admission that Cummings was treated differently to the general public.

Out of interest, is there anyone on the planet who actually believes that he took his wife and child to Barnard Castle to "test whether his eyesight was good enough to drive"? He should be embarrassed at insulting everyone's intelligence by offering an excuse as pathetic as that. I just hope that this shambolic government get what they deserve for blatantly lying to the nation.
