More to the point made previously about the wonders of Swiss democracy, because of the system of referenda being used for direct decision making, those with vested interest monopolise the choice of referendum. Hence why men in Switzerland didn't vote for a referendum to allow women to vote in elections until 1971.

Hardly a great example of how things should be.

In this country we get the government we deserve, and the one the majority chooses - with all its faults (and there's an argument for a version of proportional representation to allow more voices into government), we're a country that hasn't descended into anarchy ever, and fought alone with the great help of the then Empire nations for 3 years in the world's major war on its behalf against the greatest evil in the history of mankind.

I'm afraid that, for me, the great French contribution to modern history founders on the Vichy regime and the opportunistic and collaborative deportation of hundreds of thousands of Jews and other 'undesirables' from its towns and cities, alongside a strangely comfortable wartime existence for those left behind, on the whole. It's a beautiful place with great food and wine, and some lovely people, but please don't make France any kind of template or guide as to how Britain should be or what we should learn from. Ethnic minority groups in Paris, Marseille and Lille would, i'm sure, have a lot to say about liberty, equality and fraternity in the modern France.

Every country has its good and bad, us very much included. Bashing Britain completely and those who voted to leave the EU as if there is something wrong with them for having a different opinion to yours about the EU doesn't show great socialist principles of tolerance and diversity.

Hiya - many thanks for offering your opinions ............. all noted even 'tho I wasn't addressing you,but hey ho your methodical 'litigating eye' views are appreciated.

Glad to see you practice what you preach with regard to women's rights by sending your Missus to get you a drink at a crowded foreign bar and further expressed personal blanketed opinion on Arab men too - very gracious of you on both counts.

Although you appeared to fudge on 'non born Christian & non born French' comment but obviously one can deduce your answer via your blanket assertion Arab slur.So I take it that'll you be 'against' any possible future PSG owner take over with your Arab & French historical blanket assertions.

No system was/is perfect was the gist of the conversation of I & Spaldy for the record.

Regarding recent politics in Sweden ............ that beautiful land of policy where
Immigration detention and expulsions have increased since the refugee crisis began in 2015, as has time spent in detention. A total of 3,959 persons were detained in 2015, with an average stay of 20.7 days. By 2017, 4,379 were detained for an average of 31.5 days. In January 2016, Interior Minister Anders Ygeman called for the deportation of 80,000 rejected asylum seekers. Although Sweden is far from reaching that goal, returns have increased: 2,448 rejected asylum seekers were removed in the first eight months of 2018 - sounds like 'your' ideal retirement place - just saying like.

Music is an interest we share and Morrisey in Leeds early March this year let his feelings be known about living in Rome & Paris ................ also I've been involved with the Sleaford Mods PR when they've been over in France and their audience (covering all ages) Defo has a problem living in the Uk and France https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t_Dwg3ef0h8 - so I draw opinion from many perspectives including my work for Sputnik world media which often challenges my own views on occasion.I'm from a council house in Leeds and nothing has changed for my friends back home or their kids today as the Mods singer Jason states via his lyrics ............... he also has a tattoo with Leeds connections on his right forearm - so do you speak for people like him,his family,my old friends back in Leeds or just your own perspective which ultimately you've said on record you want to retire to Sweden, so much for your Rule Brittania synopsis then.

You don't agree with me you've previously stated on this forum & you also stated you wouldn't respond to any of my posts but you still keep on fishing regardless around 'em

Ps Did you get all your change back from your wife for the drink(s) or did she buy 'em?

Fought alone with the great help of the then Empire Nations for 3 years against the greatest evil ever????? Bit of a simplistic view. Exactly how did Britain build an Empire in the first place? Have you ever checked the nationalities of those who served and died for the British Army? What about resistance fighters and exiled governments... including the Free French Forces....anyway back to football soon hopefully

Agree with Oz on Footy but...

it's utterly ridiculous to judge any country or person for that matter for things that happened centuries ago. it's all interconnected.

Without the French ideals of the 17th century or the British aristocrats such as Franklin the US does not exist. Fast Forward 200 years and without the US, Europe is speaking German, Japanese or Russian.

If the world does not stick together we'll all be speaking Mandarin. They aren't going away and they aren't stopping until they win. Hong Kong and Taiwan are the modern day versions of the Sudetenland. I suspect we'll pass on action just like we did in 1939.

Just the reality of power and evil that some rulers elect upon themselves.... usually with the help of some self serving profiteers. Many of our corporations have sold their souls for quick profits and giving up of intellectual and countries secrets that harm the majority of the citizens.

Football is not much different. Some players and teams really believe in team before self but many only look out for themselves.

Frankly comments on the "feeble minded" generally reflect someone that just wants you to do whatever you are told by your ruler rather than actually looking at the level of complexity that is difficult for any single person to understand.

As ever Jill you completely miss the point and the target.

    1) We were in delis. As ever, you go off on a flight of imagination and put us in a bar, and me sending her there. I have no idea where you get these things from, but you really ought to be careful with your bandied about views, as they are undermined by such wild fantasy. The facts are - i was stood next to her as she was chatting with the lady serving, when Arab men (both times) rudely came in front and demanded to be served. We observed other examples of this several times in southern France and Switzerland, each time with the locals accepting it - when i challenged one of the Arab men why he thought it was ok, he said 'I am Arab', laughed, and turned back to the server. As i said, she then served him and apologised afterwards, saying they expected it and they had to accommodate them.

    2) You seem to have decided that i'm some sort of bigot, because i refer to 'Arab men'. Actually, see above - his self-description. Plus, he and others were wearing Arab robes, and headresses. Hard to find a way to describe these men therefore that doesn't include 'arab' and 'men'.

    3) I went on a number of anti-Apartheid marches in the 80s, and actively worked for the Labour Party. It's such a shame that people like you now believe in a complete 'us and them' version of life and politics. If i say 'Arab man' you assume bigotry. If i say 'my wife waiting in line' you assume ***ism. Odd, but so true of the bigotry of the new left. I fought for years against racism and ***ism so please don't give me your new politics, identity claptrap about such matters now.

    4) You 'take it' wrongly that i would be against any ownership of that sort. I would if they were crooks, supported the banning of Jews from their country as various Arab countries do, and persecuted minorities such as homo***uals and those from the sub-continent. So yet again, you assume things, taking them very wrongly, and spout of without knowing anything about my views. You want me to fit your hate-filled assumptions about people who aren't exactly like you - sadly for you Jill, there are millions of people who have a wide variety of opinions, some of which you may think are in conflict with others - but we're massively comfortable in that middle area - just as i was when my party held that middle liberal ground and supported those who were less well off, instead of people who live in Islington and think that transgender rights are more important than working class people in the north who are totally disenfranchised. There you go, work out my politics from that statement - with your blinkers on, you may just realise there's a lot more to people than entrenched far left and far right virtue signalling.

    5) Sweden and immigration. Per capita, Sweden took more people in during the 'immigration crisis' as you call it, than any other European country. It's criminal justice system and social security system were then overrun with cases derived from the new groups entering the country. You know the ones that came from Afghanistan, Pakistan and East and Central Africa because of the Syrian war - the economic migrants. There was no crisis there Jill - it was a free for all where wealthy North European countries with the honey pot of state handouts wanted to help people from a war zone who were innocent victims, and ended up dealing with hundreds of thousands of men (never saw any women or kids in those long lines queuing at the Austrian border eh?) from completely different countries and backgrounds who spied an opportunity and disgustingly took it, at the expense of those poor Syrians we wanted to (and should have) helped. Again, i have now mentioned immigration and not seeing it as fantastic - so i guess you'll think i'm a member of Britain First or something. Anyway, re Sweden, their policies towards it have changed as a result of the circumstances they found themselves in. Mainly to do with how their culture was being overwhelmed. So they are dealing with it - a bit like France does, but the latter just sends them to the channel ports eh?

    6) My 'Rule Britannia' synopsis? As i stated, every country has its problems. Sweden has issues with over-conservative norms and rules which can stifle creativity, for example. We have problems with people not being able to accept that other people have different views to them. You're welcome to yours Jill, but the way you go on the offensive about things (your comments about my wife are bizarre and so full of prejudice (prejudging without reason), and attack other people about their views is weird. I commented about why i don't like France, and you then decided i'm ***ist, racist and god knows what else.

As for following your posts, i try my best to ignore them, but sometimes you just come up with such crackers it's impossible to do so. But actually you will have noticed (if you bothered to read properly) that i did also comment on Spaldy's thoughts about Jefferson so it isn't always all about you. I didn't comment on a lot of things in either of your posts, but if you need my thoughts on the 'non-born Christian and non-born French' comment, i don't really understand it but if it implies something about muslims (i think it might), you may be surprised to know that several of my best friends are muslim, i work in an environment that is 95% muslim, live in a city where racial and philosophical diversity is greater than any in the country, and have a muslim partner (i'm divorced - the wife story happened in 2015).

So yet again, you're probably barking up quite a few wrong trees there aren't you?

I totally agree on how we built the Empire - a disgrace. I didn't say the Empire was good, just that the vast majority of the people who fought during those three years of WW2 were from that group - plus groups of escaped Poles, Jews from Europe, the Free French etc.
