This story has had a lot of media coverage over here and French media just cannot believe the blokes still in a top job ............. let alone the other stories of how some English folks have been misbehaving too in lockdown and the total lack of action from PM Boris over all matters - doesn't an effective Police force exist anymore under a Tory rule in England ?


In France lockdown was taken seriously & Policed very seriously from day one,hell we had to sign consent forms to leave the house to exercise .............


Still cannot believe UK folks actually voted for a Conservative power rabble who've short changed the NHS for years (one reason I left UK)- maybe now the penny has dropped and folks will fight for the NHS 24/7 care - 'cos if not take it from me private Medical care will cost a hell of a lot without the NHS as the UK population now realises.


I actually came back over to York and accompanied my elder daughter twice on 'Save the NHS' demonstrations in London and York as the Mental Health care she financially contributed to fell far short under Camerons vindictive cut backs which is still the case I understand.Now my daughter has many struggling friends back in in the UK (as do I) and those vulnerable friends are at breaking point.

The film I Daniel Craig by Ken Loach says all but maybe all folks today will now understand exactly why such situations happen and exactly why I and many others chose the option we did for our families and voted with our feet.
I recall Joel on this Forum asking which way should he vote on the General election and I replied Labour citing why I left the UK (Tory rule) and also under NHS funding with regard to my daughters issues at that time.
I 'think' Joel works outside the UK now too.


Maybe time for the Yellow Jackets in the UK to rally on the streets .............. as if not, then put up or shut up or vote with your feet and leave the UK as "The Queen is literally Dead" in whatever values she and we purportedly defend,IMO,to much focus on London end of.

I’ve watched the incremental retreat of the state from rural France, maternity clinics, district courts, army barracks, post offices and shops disappearing from the centres of small towns. The people affected by this retreat realised (thanks to the internet) that they were on the fringe. What the yellow vests gave them was visibility in the media and rapprochement with each other to voice concern.

People who had stopped talking to each other as the town centres were hollowed out in favour of strip malls found each other again at the town/village roundabouts where they gathered to protest. They shared their struggles and cast off the shame of feeling as if they had “failed” to stay in the middle classes by becoming unified.

The people that wear them are French citizens being off duty Police officers,off duty firefighters,off duty medic staff,teachers,trade union members,even pensioners who see nothing but higher taxes and erosion of the welfare safety net - they don't sit on their arses and let politicians off easily in France,they voice free opinion via the streets.

Your post is confusing.

Government never equates to freedom? stealing part of a paycheck and the ability to self determine and giving to someone else is the antithesis of freedom. regardless of the country. The only difference is that countries such as France and Belguim do it a little more gracefully than China, Russia or Venezuela.

in the end it always ends up the same. Some just take longer than others. Ben Franklin summed it up best. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Counting on the govenment to give you anything more than defense or infrastructure in a fools errand. Counting on them to control their power and treat themselves the same as others is insanity. They will always **** you over the long haul. Power crazed people always seem to end up ruling those that just want to get on with their life.
