“Dinna Bring an Arab Hame Tae Me”

With all the conversation around racism over the last few days, this “song” came to mind. I don’t know what year it was recorded, probably 10-15 years ago but remember hearing it and thinking it was racist as feck then let alone now.

Not my intention to turn this into point scoring between the 2 clubs as racism is a societal issue and certainly not limited to Dundee fans but how the person(s) behind this and the fans who subsequently laughed along thought it was acceptable highlights the level of ignorance out there.

For those who don’t know what I’m on about, there are 2 versions on YouTube, 1 of which the guy has typed out the lyrics.

    Obviously.

It’s racist in how it refers to Chinese, Pakistani and black people.

Ah, sorry. I haven't heard or seen the lyrics.

Note to self: shut your puss if you don't know what you are on about.

As I say there’s a lyrics video on YouTube if you’re interested.

It randomly came into my head when thinking about racism growing up. My Dundee supporting mates singing that in the playground. Imagine they’d cringe now but to think an adult wrote and recorded it at the time is baffling.

I heard a while back that it was actually an Arab who wrote and recorded that song as a pi$$ take. Not sure if it's true or not.

Not true. It was a CD called or by “Jump the Q” and there were other songs too (some of which also available on YouTube).

Unsurprisingly hard to find much online but this website lists some of the other efforts.

    Check out “the arab family”

The authors response to negativity at the time:

“This daft wee ditty has caused an uproar! It has been branded as offensive, disgusting and nothing short of a criminal offence, it has been damned by both the local press and supporters of the gay orangee mob, “so its had its desired effect then? The only thing I don’t like about this wee number is the use of the word Fanny, I tried to change it to Boady as it just dawned on me the kids might listen to this, but oops! too late the CD had been done, all 1000 copies, however its probably the same wee *******s that are copying the CD and making a killing (Doh!)”
