I share your enthusiasm for Davis, Dave, but everything about him is just, well, ‘almost’. Almost a legend in the making. Almost scored despite very good opportunities, almost the complete striker, almost fit, almost, almost, almost.

I remember the Young Villan and I being there for his full debut v Norwich. WE were both ‘who the FFF is this Davis, pre-match. Within 10 mins we were both, WOW. He mullered them, we won 4-2, he almost scored 6. Hourihane (3) and Green benefited from his powerful display. Trouble was, he had the ball boys running for cover with his shooting.

To be fair to the lad, no manager has really paired him up with another striker. DS really doesn’t have a clue, he plays a hold up merchant, with no one to hold the ball up for.

Given a consistent role in a striking partnership, I truly believe he will shed the ‘almost’ label.
