    Macclesfield

Macclesfield have had a winding-up petition over unpaid tax adjourned for an 11th time by the High Court.

They were originally due to have their case heard on 25 March but it was delayed because of coronavirus.

The club, who are at risk of being relegated from the English Football League, owe more than £72,000.

The petition will now be heard on 9 September, with HMRC recognising that finances at the club have been impacted by the coronavirus.

The latest adjournment comes as off-the-field matters impact the Silkmen, who have been docked a total of 11 points this season from two charges due to unpaid wages and failure to fulfill two league fixtures.

Macclesfield could still go down from League Two depending on the outcome of a hearing over a further EFL misconduct charge for unpaid wages.

After the final league table was decided by a points per game calculation, the Silkmen are in 23rd position and, should the resulting punishment be a loss of three or more points, they would be relegated to the National League instead of bottom-placed Stevenage.

Players and staff issued a statement to say their mental health had been "disregarded" as they await the outcome of the hearing, which took place on Friday.

Some players have also expressed their disappointment over the points per game calculations, which turned their existing 11-point penalty into a 13.67-point deduction.

How long is this debacle going to go to be allowed to go on.

So if they get more points deducted, and get relegated what happens then, possible they go under or relegated again

probably relegated from EFL straight to NLN - the same as Boston were in 2007.

I suspect if they aren't relegated at the end of this year, they may well be doing a Bury next year. Not sure what that means for the national League (hopefully not our concern!) But another complication to possibly navigate

So the new season will start, games will be played and points will be won and lost. Macclesfield lose their league status and nobody has a clue where we go from there.

The circus is back in town.

I'd imagine the EFL will work quicker this time. Also, they had Bolton and Bury at the time, this time, it looks to be just the one team in a mess

I hope so CBP, the EFL have had their practice with B & B (and us). I don't think having to listen to their club's woes now and then wait three months for the chop is doing anyone at the club, or the EFL, any favours at all.

Macclesfield Town say their suspended two-point penalty has been activated, ensuring their League Two survival.

A deduction of three points or more for misconduct would have seen the Silkmen drop below Stevenage and be relegated into the National League.

An additional four-point penalty was imposed but suspended for the 2020-2021 season.

"The previously issued League Two standings are therefore unaffected by this," said a club statement.

"The Silkmen conclude the 2019-20 campaign in 23rd place - albeit with an amended final total of 23 points."

They have to prove they can finance next season by July 31st (same as what Bury had to do but earlier this time), they've also been fined £20k... They can't afford to pay their players and have a winding up petition against them, are they paying that?

Rinse and repeat next season? When will the EFL kick them out? Getting to be ridiculous.
