Aberdeen best XI of last 5 years

Just for something to do... what would be your starting 11 of players who have played for us in the last 5 years? You can pick whatever formation you like, and you can include players who have been on loan.

    I'd go...

    Ward
    Taylor McKenna Considine
    McLean Shinnie
    McGinn Maddison Christie Hayes
    Rooney

As good as Lewis has been, I think Ward was a better keeper and less prone to mistakes. Not a great deal to choose from in defence. Jack and Ferguson are noticeable omissions in midfield, but that's where we've had the most quality in recent years. Slightly unusual formation to accommodate everyone, but basically 3 at the back with McGinn and Hayes wide, Shinnie the ball winner and captain, McLean building from deep and getting the ball to Maddison and Christie in behind Roonaldo. That team would win the league.

Have you forgotten how shiite we are when we play 3 at the back?

McLean and Maddison in the same team would be a mistake, even if you like McLean.

Maddison is ten times the player that McLean will ever be.

I remember praising him on here and being told that he was too lightweight etc.

    Lewis
    Logan Anderson McKenna Lowe
    McLean Shinnie
    McGinn Maddison Hayes
    Cosgrove

I left Christie out as he’s not a winger & Maddison is better.
I picked Cosgrove over Rooney as he’s a better all round player & his record in the last 12 months was as good as Rooneys if not better.
I think Anderson just qualifies as he retired in 2015 I think.

Just like your inclusion of Anderson....his last appearance was in May 2015 so unfortunately (a great player he was) it was over 5 years ago.

Good shout on Lowe actually, I forgot about him. I would've had Anderson in but think he was just outside the 5 year window. The striker is actually a tricky one as there's not much to choose from unless you stuck McGinn up front to bring Christie in (even if it was out wide) - Rooney was deadly with Hayes and McGinn on top form though which is why I gave him the nod.
