the fantastic earnings of prem players suggests to me that we will see less "top players" bothering with management in the future, they just don't need the money or stress.

Not sure it's working like that at the moment, theres usually delays for the average person getting their badges because top players tend to be getting fast tracked through

Maybe some BAME folk get deterred by the fact that they have to try harder and meet more obstacles than some less talented white folk to get to the same level.

In some other areas, read about the lives of Nat "King" Cole, Miles Davies (gets accosted and jailed for loitering outside of a night club - HIS!!)

How about the space race which heavily relied on the skills of 3 black women - see Hidden Figures. Did you know? Only just now getting some recognition despite the fact that John Glenn didn't want to go up until one of the three had manually checked the computer figures. Or the Apollo 13 rescue mission may well have failed without their input.

I'm not keen on the "Take the knee" and similar symbolic gestures. Ignorance is the enemy here in my book, whether it be BAME or Women's Lib. One poster has a lovely signature "Women can achieve much more than the Women's Lib movement allows them to".

Hmm, the study sounds right. If I think back towards all the Notts players who’ve been labelled ‘lazy’, not many were white.

Agree with you on the first point, not on the second.

There used to be a phenomenon in science called 'god of the gaps', whereby anything that couldn't be explained was immediately attributed to God. You could argue the same principle is at work these days but anything anomalous is explained as racism (or ***ism, or transphobia, or something else)

As with all my other posts on this topic I'm not denying that racism exists - it clearly does - but if you've seen an athletics sprint final recently you might wonder if there's another reason why black players are mentioned more often for their pace, apart from racism.

Why on earth would being complimented on your pace and strength in this game be taken as a negative? Benji, Pedro and Chiedozie were all widely recognized as classy intelligent players, Stubbs and Kilcline for being no-nonsense brute force (and great players for it). As for being lazy, the great Don Masson would make the ball do the work, you don't have to run around like a headless chicken to be a good player. Footballers in general have long had a reputation for being thick (Monty Python's Jimmy Buzzard sketch was 1969).
