Why on earth would being complimented on your pace and strength in this game be taken as a negative? Benji, Pedro and Chiedozie were all widely recognized as classy intelligent players, Stubbs and Kilcline for being no-nonsense brute force (and great players for it). As for being lazy, the great Don Masson would make the ball do the work, you don't have to run around like a headless chicken to be a good player. Footballers in general have long had a reputation for being thick (Monty Python's Jimmy Buzzard sketch was 1969).
