    42 years ago today - 3rd July 1978....

    I started work.

The worlds worst and most reluctant stores man and petrol pump attendant.

I can see that day in my mind as if it was yesterday.

Funny how life turns out isn’t it?

That summer we had the Carl Bridgwater murder locally and “Don’t fear the reaper” by the Blue Oyster Cult and Jilted John in the charts.

Petrol was 64p a gallon when I started and three months later it was 80p a gallon and people were up in arms about it!

I was wearing 32 inch flares and a tight fitting denim jacket with a skull and crossbones motif stitched on the top front pocket whilst sporting a long shaggy perm.

The sun seemed to shine every day even though I hated that job.

    That’s what being 16 felt like.......sunshine!

Nearly 59 feels more like heavy cloud with rain on the way!

Thirty six years ago today my daughter was born. Later that evening I had a lot to drink in The Bell Inn, Whittington!

65 last year and the last 12 months have been some of the happiest of my life. I'm the least stressed I've ever been and physically fitter than I was 10 years ago.

My only fear is this euphoria (and I do mean euphoria) can't last. But I am quite good at not thinking about that for too long.
