    Billy Mercer

I am looking for information re: former Millers keeper and current goalkeeper coach at Burnley, Billy Mercer. I know he signed for the club in Feb’89 but did he make any appearances in the 88/89 promotion season ? Also any details of his debut and number of appearances by season would be appreciated as would any other info re this period of his career. Thanks

According to my information Kelham O'Hanlon played the full season in 88/89.
Billy played two games in 89/90. His debut was a home game against Bristol Rovers, a 3-2 win, his second game was Brentford away, a 4-2 loss.He played 13 league and 5 cup games in 90/91.
He didn't become established as first choice keeper till 91/92, 35 League games.
91/92 was also a promotion season from the old Fourth Division, second place behind Burnley.
92/93 season- 36 League appearances and 12 Cup games.
    93/94 - 17 League games and 8 Cup games.
94/95 -1 League appearance and 2 Cup games.
He joined the Blades in early 94.

He used to live on Gillott Lane off Morthen Road in Wickersley.

    He might still do

Richie Smallwood quite close to that location too.
He plays for Blackburn if that's any help. Will be released after season ends

Both living very close by to our legend Ronnie Moore.
I think Billy may also have been from Merseyside which may have explained the disproportionate disappearance of car hub caps
