On Tavistock Crescent our councillor (Asian btw) used to phone the police every weekend because black youths were keeping everybody awake all night. Now I don't give a flying f*ck if you believe this or not but the police used to ask if the troublemakers were black and when we said yes they wouldn't even come out. I have never experienced the animosity against blacks and BAME that I see now up here. This won't end as you want it to end. If you think we're going to erect statues of stupid women doing Black Power salutes think again.
So is your problem with the lazy /cowardly response of the police? Or does your statement that you are disappointed with a large presence of black people in our "once great capital" because you feel that black people are genetically predisposed to poor behaviour and therefore will naturally spoil our towns and cities with their poor behaviour? Is that what you are getting at?

I have a gun but it never crossed my mind to produce it, let alone use it, during an incident which I considered annoying but not dangerous. The two peddlers did threaten but I've been threatened many, many times and I can't think of an instance where I felt my life in danger.
The point about advocacy of legal gun ownership was I thought very clearly a reaction to what is an ongoing problem: the withdrawal of the police from the protection of the ordinary citizen. It can only get worse.
Be careful Wendun, this is a balted trap! the trio will continue to press you on the gun and twist your responses

Berkeley in California (like Brighton X 10) is going to have unarmed civilians doing traffic stops instead of the police, presumably suicidal ones.

How do you think a Black Miller fan would feel?

You state that 40% of the staff are Black. Isn't that more representative of the demographic in London?

What do you think makes it depressing for Wendun? That there's Black people at all or just maybe that he may be expressing a view that there might not be too much integration at YOUR college (it's not your college BTW)

You're dealing with ****agers, yet it seems reading your posts, they can do no wrong.

I sincerely hope there's staff at this college, living in the real world and providing some balance to their education.

    If not god help 'em.

If I was a Black Miller fan would likely not be happy to be seen as part of a depressing presence in his/her football club. Or on this message board, which is why such views might not be welcomed by the Club/Mods, but that's their decision.

I think Monty, self purporting to rise against "the intellectual pygmies of this site" might be capable himself of discussing why he feels that 80% of black students making up the presence of an area is depressing in "our once great capital"? Why do you feel that you need to speak for him? I would applaud Monty for speaking his mind exactly on this, and obviously I am intrigued as to why he thinks this and I repeat the question for him- does he view Black people in this light because they are genetically, inevitably more disposed to be disorderly, violent, anti-social, poor parents etc? Or are there social and cultural factors that affect this and make it more complex? It's quite a straightforward question, although the answer could become complex, but the honesty would be refreshing.

Why do you think kids at our college can do no wrong? We take in students that have been excluded and done very badly at school and have all kinds of issues. Of course they often do wrong, but we're here to put help them make better choices and do what usually parents and other grown ups have not done. This isn't a race thing, it's a class thing. The same issues are to be found in similar colleges in all cities that have poverty hit areas, around the world. We have to exclude some kids, which is always heartbreaking bearing in mind that the unanimous factor in every student that we do have to excude is that they have been failed by/given up on by grown ups all the way through their lives. But it happens. Fights happen, we lose some kids to gang activity, but we win much more than we lose. When I read on here from Grist, Fire and Monty all we hear is the negative, from the criminal and failed minority. Nothing at all about those black kids that go off to Uni, go into work/apprenticeships, and that majority of placid, funny, friendly, dopey, angsty, optimistic children that we spend most of the time dealing with. Just normal kids ffs.

Just out of interest, what do you imagine we are teaching them? You seem to be following Kerr down the sad trail that just because you argue for better social fairness for poverty hit children, and think we could do better on equality, that we are obsessive politicos teaching socialism and identity politics. Sorry but we are vocational teachers getting kids ready for work and HE in the creative industries. I'm afraid the day job is a lot more boring and normal than you and Kerr seem to think.

If you're that interested, I'll send you our last Ofsted report that highlights the great work we do in raising kids up from very difficult life situations and educational records and getting them into work. "God help 'em". Indeed :-) It's very positive, but I guess you don't want to read that do you.

If you want Monty and only Monty to answer use the PM function.

I wouldn't want to read any 'report' that blows up your arse to be honest. I think you do enough of that yourself.

Why the mod comment? Do you want to drive any opinion you disapprove of underground?

What happened to the debate, you and others on here continually harp on about? Three or four of you love throwing the mods a 'helping hand'.

    Sad.

You challenged the work we doing, implying we are not providing balance. So I responded by saying what we do, and that we seem to do it well. Do you think that you have the right to make attacks without a person coming back at you with a defense?
