Richie Benaud was the greatest commentator of all time in my opinion.

I could sit and watch a match from ball one right through the 90 overs back in the 70’s and 80’s just for the pure joy of him often saying nothing for minutes on end.

Only a true master of his craft can have the confidence to leave the airwaves completely free of dialogue when not required.

    “Bowled him”

    “Shot”

    “Quite magnificent”

Often the long silence broken by just one or two of the phrases above.

Cricket will never be the same again for me now that Richie is no longer with us.

Same with Test Match Special on the radio.

For me Henry Blofeld was the best of the bunch since John Arlott but Arlott was the master.........what a beautiful tone he had to his voice. He painted a commentary like Constable painted a picture.

By a long way it's players spending 90 minutes trying to con referees and then squealing like pigs when refs get it wrong.

I always thought Gerald Sinstadt was awesome a very passionate and excitable commentator. But he's not talked about now since he allegedly exposed himself in a p0rn cinema

When a player is fouled or thinks he's fouled and then goes to ground and grabs hold of the ball. When they do that they do invariably get the free kick!

When players walk near to supporters who have probably waited hours wearing headphones and looking at the floor to avoid making eye contact or God forbid speaking to them.

I went to the same school as Gerald Sinstadt. I looked forward to when he attended the Old Boys Annual Dinner and was guest speaker. He was absolute crap and couldn't put two sentences together to save his life!

Of course not Mick. He was posh and paid at the foyer whereas I had to sneak in through the fire exit!
