It worked for Brecht though, BT. A man who eventually came to live in East Germany, who, in spite of being born in Augsburg, Germany applied for Austrian nationality in 1950 which meant that he could stash his earnings away in an Austrian Bank. He totally ignored the fact that many of his friends were subsequently 'disposed of' by the Russians in the mid 1950s.

He left a legacy with his work in establishing his theatre company in East Berlin and his collaboration with Kurt Weil in The Threepenny Opera etc., etc., however, he was furthering his own ends, as they all do and, in spite of what you quoted, he definitely had his head buried in the sand because it suited him ---perhaps that is why he was such an expert on what happens if you do bury your head in the sand.
Personally, I am very much aware of what is happening, I stand up for the things that affect me and those around me but I could not give a damn about anything which I can't influence or would just be a total waste of time and effort in trying to do anything. It is great to live stress free, something which many people feel isn't possible ----it is all a state of mind and it is possible.

I worked hard for a very long time on behalf of the British Labour Party Supersub6. I still bear the scars, but if I was asked to help form a new socialist party in this country to defeat the likes of Johnson and Starmer, I would do it in a heartbeat.

    I just cannot understand "apolitical".

apolitical is not interested or not involved in politics --as you well know. I became uninterested in the 1980s when the government of the time wasted well over £1 million in trying to introduce a project involving the Army, the RN and the RAF. I attended countless meetings with the Defence Minister and his oppos and they were told right from the outset by all three services, before any money had been wasted, that what they were trying to do was not possible and that if they did try to introduce the measures they wanted it would cost millions.
They blundered on for 15 months, had a change of Defence Minister after around 6 months, still followed their agenda, had lots more meetings and then decided, after wasting all that money, that the original proposal was not possible.
Having been involved in such a waste of time and money I decided that there was no point in being interested because they would do what they wanted. Guess what, some 20 years later, after I had left the service, it reared its ugly head again and even more time and money was wasted and ---guess what ---the same decision was reached!

So yes, apolitical, not interested and most certainly not involved, however, I don't need to be involved because there are so many people who wish to make their mark and make a mess of things without my help. I shall remain Apolitical of Ashington!
