    Summat wrong somewhere!
It seems Bale's wages might be a stumbling block in Spurs' wish to bring him back. He is, apparently, on £600K a week at Real Madrid.

With Southend looking likely to be next, can a return to the lower divisions being split on a North and South basis be far away?

Would even that cost saving exercise be sufficient?

How ridiculous is it that Macclesfield Town have gone bust for less than Gareth Bale's weekly wage?

It would save team travel and overnight costs a bit but even split in those regions, not massively: just reduced coach travel probably. Can't see division 3/4 teams staying away overnight at the moment for biosecurity reasons anyway.

Also is Exeter away at Ipswich or Mansfield at Barrow any less arduous a journey

Take you’re point, and you’re the accountant, but there’ll always be extremes...Exeter, Plymouth, Carlisle and Barrow. Just looking at this weekend’s League 2 fixtures there seem to be some crazily expensive journeys...Colchester v Bolton, Exeter v Port Vale

I think you mean crazily long journeys, not expensive. The actual cost of hiring a coach for the day will be the same, I suggest (especially if the club owns one) so the incremental cost of the longer journey will be fuel, maybe another meal and at worst a second driver. Compared to player wages even at that low level of the pyramid, chicken feed.

It does beg the question also, that if Bolton is in regional lockdown, why are teams going there to play, as opposed to postponing the games. Are the players all in season long bubbles??

Maybe the whole thing needs restructuring, the championship becomes a premier 2, because of the number of attractive fixtures which are well supported and would appeal as much, if not more than a number of Premier league matches.

Then have 3 regional feeder leagues, North, Central and South. Not only would this reduce travelling for teams, but also visiting supporters would have more access to local games.
