Under terms of the Dublin Treaty, EU countries have the right the return a refugees to the first point of entry. Also, under the treaty, there is an agreement countries will share the responsibilty between them so it does not all fall on the first country of entry.* France take twice the number of Britain and Germany 3 times that number.

However, now we have left the EU, we lose the rights under that agreement to return refugees to the first point of entry or share out the responsibilty with other EU member states. All refugees that arrive here are our responsibility.

Didnt we have an agreement with France that our border entry was in Calais (which is what led to the migrant camps there as I recall). This agreement seems to have dropped away since we left the EU. Am I right in thinking the border is now in the UK. Probably why refugees cannot be blocked in France anymore. Maybe we have change our laws Bill.

Rules of the Dublin Regulation still apply during the withdrawal period.

Other treaties still exist with France.

Why ask Bill these questions? He probably wants laws to reduce immigration significantly.

He and probably a large percentage of the electorate think the UK is a soft touch.

If that not a reasonable view?

If it isn’t, it seems our politicians are not getting the message through.

All illegal migrants should and must be sent back. Clue is in the title of this thread, illegal.

Why is the UK a 'soft touch' for immigration, when half of the EU countries take in significantly more asylum seekers than us with France taking in nearly three times more in 2019?

You went to the trouble of replying on behalf of Bill so I assume you're in agreement with him and the 'large proportion of the population' that think we are a soft touch. So as you did this, I am asking you, although Bill welcome to reply.
