What we both found odd was the absence of Bizzies. Zero police presence, only a few masks, the only difference to a "normal" Sunday was the non food shops, pubs and restaurants were all shut.

Bizarre does not quite do it! I no longer see the point of this masquerade.

All reinforced by Boris going into isolation again! You reported that it was like a "normal" Sunday, hence the populus are not listening to what they are being told by those in power.
Probably the same in many places over the weekend and has been reported to Westminster.
Suddenly, last night, Boris is isolating because he has been in contact with someone with the virus in the safe environment of Downing Street. He is then reported in the various media channels as being "fit as a butcher's dog but sticking to the guidelines as people should do"

No need for a vaccine - everything is normal.
If you're one of life's bedwetters 59, there's always something to worry about, if you're worried that one day you might die, then you're right to be worried, one day you will. If you're worried that the NHS is collapsing under the strain of coping with the 2nd wave, then you've no need to worry, the NHS actually has more spare capacity than usual for this time of year, and all we're seeing so far is the normal autumn/winter rise in people being hospitalised with acute RIs, and the usual number of people sadly dying from them. Of course this may worry you, but there's no need to be more worried this autumn than any other autumn.

I disagree about the vaccine, we have a flu vaccine, which for the last 20 years has kept some measure of control over the virus, and has reduced significantly the number of people the flu virus kills in winter. A vaccine for Covid will obviously be beneficial, not sure why you think otherwise.

Here you are 59, if you want to get your worry beads out, worry about this, and not fictitious NHS bed shortages.

New research indicates that between January and August, some 4.7 million fewer people were referred to hospital in England, compared with the same eight-month period in 2019. Numbers granted routine NHS operations – such as hip, knee and cataract surgery – are down over a third, according to the Health Foundation, a respected think tank.

Around 140,000 people have waited over a year for a routine operation due to the NHS focus on Covid, the highest level since 2008. And Macmillan Cancer Support estimates that 50,000 people across Britain now have cancers still undiagnosed because of Covid-related disruptions and delays to NHS check-ups, screenings and referrals during the March-to-July lockdown alone.

It could take over 18 months to identify such individuals, Macmillan say, raising grave medical dangers. An additional 33,000 existing cancer patients are still waiting on potentially life-saving treatments delayed due to Covid. The NHS has made progress towards reopening full non-Covid services since the pandemic’s spring peak. But there is, says the Health Foundation, “still a potentially huge hidden backlog, as far fewer routine procedures are being undertaken compared to last year."

The corona virus represents the zeitgeist of 2020, Boris is hiding behind Covid-19 because he is probably the most useless Prime Minister of the last 100 years.

No wonder59er has his worry beads out sinkov, there is plenty to be worried about.

    Merry Christmas - NOT!

I’ve just read Professor Jon Deeks, an expert in biostatistics at the University of Birmingham, said the Innova “lateral flow” tests being used by the Government had a “false positive” rate of almost 0.4 per cent, according to official research commissioned by ministers.

This would mean if testing were ramped up to cover the UK's population of 66 million ahead of the Christmas period, and assuming the ministers are not lying, we will end up with about 400,000 people in the country getting false positive results.

The impact is obvious: for nearly half a million people their Christmas would be wrongly ruined by enforced lockdowns following errant false positive results. How long do we actually need to start getting these tests 100% spot on?

You can't get them 100% accurate BT, and actually a 0.4% false positive rate is quite low, certainly lower than the PCR test currently being used.

I did read a few days ago BT that the mass testing in Liverpool using this lateral flow test was finding a positive rate of around 0.4%, as the expected false positive rate was also 0.4% this meant that virtually on one in Liverpool had the virus. The story has disappeared, it's all gone quiet, I can't wait for it to surface again, something very peculiar going on in Liverpool.
