These are the twelve players, who played most games as starters in the 86/87 season, and I labelled them in those positions, what do you think?

    11x

    37- Eamonn Bannon - LW-AM
    36- Maurice Malpas - LB-CD
    35 - Iain Ferguson - CF

    32 - Jim McInally - LM-DM-LB
    31 - Ian Redford - AM-CF
    30 - Paul Sturrock - CF-LW
    29 - Kevin Gallacher - RW-CF
    28 - John Clark - CF---r--->CD-RB
    21 - Paul Hegarty - CD
    21 - Dave Beaumont - CD-DM

I doubt Malpas ever played CD that season, LB only. John Clark and Dave Beaumont were mostly used as substitutes (and I doubt John Clark played RB ) I reckon with Dave Bowman and Billy Kirkwood more likely starters. I'd have thought John Holt would have played fairly regularly too ( RB )...

I am not one of the guys that can pull out stats and things on demand, but i can be almost 99% certain i saw John Clark take up RB, CB, and CM in the early days of his United career.

Can never remember him at right back or centre midfield. Started as a centre forward as I recall and moved back to centre half. Never built for being a right back.

JC is a Ventilation or Heating Engineer now I think. Am I right in thinking him or his family were fishermen after fitba.

John Holt would come in the next list of players as starters, and this is where I referred to JimMcinally's step as a defensive midfielder, that is, with the departure of Gough towards the spurs, I think that the right back should have been occupied by Holt, but I think I also occupy him in many Bowman games and in some for Beaumont, when Bowman passed to the right back, McInally possibly entered to play as a central midfielder, I may be wrong, I don't know.

The next eight in number of matches as starters, and again I labelled them in those positions

    Dave Bowman - DM, RB
    Gary McGinnis - DM, CD
    John Holt - RB, LB
    Billy Kirkwood - CM
    Chris Sulley - LB
    Ralph Milne - RW, LW
    Gordon McLeod - ??*
    Jimmy Page - ??*

*I can't get enough information to know their positions.
