    For those not quite sure where this was, the boat yard was roughly where the old Tesco was, so more Rotherham centre than Masborough.

    Yes, I believe the slipway can still be seen on Forge Island. In the 60s the cellars of the Bridge Inn were reputed to be haunted by the dead from the affair.

    I think it’s because Forge Lane faded into disuse as buildings like Tesco were built there. The footpath past Tesco from Bridge Street went between Tesco and the river, Forge Lane was on the other side between Tesco and the canal, so not a major thoroughfare
