There was a great US crime series that was aired in the UK in the sixties called 87th precinct. Nearly all the action took place in a small precinct station in Manhattan. Like all the best shows, unlike today, it was dialogue/character/atmosphere based with very strong story lines. A very good program.

The attached episode stars Peter Falk who, quite rightly, seems to have a number of fans on here.

Columbo is a timeless series,i don't know anyone who doesn't like it. He knows who did it before they have done it.
But he only deals with the famous and wealthy who live in huge mansions and are very complimentary and good natured about it when he sends them to death row.
One of my favourites though not a cop was Shoestring, the Private Ear,all the stories were original and well written, where as Columbo was pretty much the same every episode. Liz Crowther daughter of Leslie was in Shoestring and Leslie was an Albion fan, so there you go.
Man in a Suitcase was good too, and for light heartedness Randall and Hopkirk.
