Just googled her, some fat Es*** tart who has notoriety as a celebrity. Evidently her Dad is "literally" fighting covid at the moment. Not sure how else he could be fighting it but good luck to him

‘Fat Ess ex tart’? Have we come full circle...are we back at the Home Secretary? Bring back Quintin Hogg!

Our lives present and past are full of singers, actors and celebrities who have very little talent and have had to work not very hard for their money and fame. What they have had in common, is good fortune. Meanwhile there are thousands of others who have much more talent and work much harder, but with little reward, without that good fortune.

By Swales thinking, Gemma Collins is always in demand and so she must be talented, I must be missing something.

Many singers, actors and celebrities are exceptionally talented and work very hard for themselves and others, these have my full admiration. Some get their fame because of a gimmick, ie; being camp, where would Norton be if he didn't play the camp card?
I truly hope you don't actually believe what you ahve just posted? it kind of sounds as if its the whining's of a sore, jealous loser!

There is truth in the point that there are many "celebrities" today who seem talentless and one wonders at their appeal, I think its stretching things a bit far to say Gemma Collins is in demand, she makes a living and obviously appeals to a small subset of the population, but the amount involved is small and she is a novelty item, often poked fun at. Comparing her to Graham Norton is frankly silly! I doubt any media would pay her the amount that Norton can command but then again I'm sure your an expert on these matters!

I'm fascinated to know how you know these people who have no talent, didn't have to work very hard for their money and their fame, that sounds to me an assumption based on your judgement of them, rather than any real knowledge of what they have actually had to do!

Its also true that many talented people don't make it, I know a number of both musicians and actors who are very good but never made the big time, though many of them make a decent living, some of that is down to luck but in other cases its because they don't appeal to the mass audience. But if you don't have the ability in the first place and work hard then its highly unlikely you will be in a position to get the lucky break.

So Graham Norton "plays the camp card"? Mm really? Thats all he does? Thats why Virgin radio have offered him a slot?

You can say what you like but he does have a sizeable fan base and I think I'd trust the judgement of the people who employ him against your somewhat prejudiced views.

Oh dear you seem to have missed my joke! I deliberately posted a comment by Graham Norton as I wanted to see if I got the expected "dog whistle" reaction and so it proved.

Plenty of right wing polemic, mixed with faint whiffs of homophobia, codswallop analysis of the media and arts, a good dose of prejudice and some good old beeb bashing by the usual suspects and rA thinks rational discussion is possible on here?

To an extent you reap what you sow, Swale...but I hear what you’re saying. ‘Rational discussion’ is always possible on here with some...
sometimes with others...and seldom, if ever, with a minority...two of whom I’ve chosen to just ignore.
Can’t help but feel we’ve reached a new low on the forum in recent days. Not blaming the ‘management’...it’s hard when adults behave so inappropriately and seem to be suffering from the online equivalent of ‘road rage’.
Maybe it’s a new pandemic syndrome, ‘keyboard rage’? Needs to change quickly imo.

Its generally the case when the subject wanders off football, because the membership is mostly old right wing leaning old blokes with an axe to grind!

We need the return of youthful intellectual thought. Where are you DCFC Army and The Mighty Derby Supporter when we need you.

I do find your ageism intriguing Swale, when you are probably the same age yourself based on your talk of retirement

The difference is I haven't become a self obsessed, nostalgic conservative!
