    Formula 1

The Ferrari team is an absolute joke, lots of money yet poor car, poor strategy and drivers who cannot stand each other. The two drivers nearly put each other out of the race when their cars touched in the context of competing in 12th and 13th places.
This seems to be a team run by Steven Pattison.

Aye, only Haas and Williams finished after them, what a shan. Nice to see Renault and McLaren catching up with Merc and RB though.

I've always thought Formula 1'racing as very boring to watch what with all of the cars basically looking the same,I would rather watch some banger racing where anything could happen, having said that those racing drivers from the 20's and 30's that went around circuits without even so much as a seatbelt on was must have balls the size of cannonballs and the cars that they drove looked absolutely beautiful

Verstappen has now grown up. In previous seasons he either did well in races or he did not finish. Yesterday he knew that 3rd was the best that he could do so latterly he conserved his tyres in order to be certain of finishing. So did Hamilton and Bottas. I would have liked Hamilton and Verstappen to have raced for the full duration. If they shredded their tyres then Bottas would have won.

Hamilton owes Bottas a couple of favours from last season. Mercedes could have arranged for Bottas to win yesterday, such that he would now be second in the championship, 4 points ahead of Verstappen rather than 3 points behind. Probably after the remaining 10 races the second Mercedes will be second in the completed championship.

F1 is still interesting if you try and understand it. It’s now more about car development and money and the personalities, such as they are, are held in check. The days of James Hunt are gone, more’s the pity, but there’s still plenty to enjoy. Qualifying informs the race the next day so I sometimes watch that too. The race can be won or lost in the race to the first corner. From then it’s about tyres and how well the drivers manage them, and the reliability of the engines.

I still miss the refuelling stops though.

Monaco is the most boring race because it is almost impossible to overtake. It also does not comply with several of the fundamental F1 rules for staging a race. But there is lots of money to be made there, so that's OK.

A couple of years ago Daniel Ricciado was in the lead early in the race and then his car got a problem such that he was missing a couple of gears. He still won.

Ferrari's Vettel starts on tomorrow's grid in 17th place, behind the second Lada.

Vettel's Ferrari out after 10 minutes, that's especially dreadful in the Ferrari home grand pix.
