    Foundation update email

Received this tonight, £8500 per month not to bad an amount, but I think the number of members (550) is disappointing, what do people think

I'd say it was decent in such a short space of time.

I'll be more impressed if we have the same amount or more in a year's time to be honest.

Ave donation is £15, I'd assume the vast majority are a tenner with a few bigger donations.

This foundation could have been set up in November 2018.

Could have been set up much earlier but John Nelms was too pig headed to see the benefits.

In September 2018 there was a discussion on the DBF about merits of setting up a fans fundraising scheme on the lines of the Hearts Foundation or AberDNA.
One poster called ‘Billy Campbell’s Ghost’ (BCG) had a friend who was involved with the Hearts Foundation and he knew another person who was involved with the Dundee United Foundation.
We exchanged emails as I personally know this poster. I carried out research on the AberDNA, the Ayr Untied fans fund raising scheme and the Well Trust. Both the AberDNA and Ayr United fans fundraising schemes state that the money raised is handed to the manager to increase his playing budget. The Well Trust who own a majority shareholding in Motherwell Football Club hand over the money raised for working capital.
BCG and I both decided that the AberDNA was the best option for Dundee Football Club to adopt as Aberdeen Football Club run the scheme.
I contacted Bob Hynd who is the DFCSS secondary representative on the Dundee Football Club board of directors and emailed him details of the AberDNA scheme. At the beginning of November 2018 Bob replied apologising for the delay in getting back to me.
He said that the AberDNA looked a good fans fundraising scheme and he would speak to John Nelms about it.
That was the last I heard about it until the 1893 Foundation scheme was mentioned at the end of May 2020.
I have kept quiet about my endeavours to try to persuade the club to set up a fans fundraising scheme in November 2018 until now because I did not want to scupper the number of people joining the 1893 Foundation scheme and Bob Hynd is no longer the DFCSS secondary representative on the board of Dundee Football Club.

It's started now though so good on the guy who got Nelms to agree......a lot of sensible and respected people have had a go over the years without getting him to see the bigger picture......that's a dig at Nelms not the folk who have had the conversations.

I'm really interested to see how this goes......my main hope is it brings the fans and club closer together.....much closer.

In my opinion the money raised under the 1893 Foundation scheme should have been ‘ring fenced’ to increase the Manager’s playing budget which happens with the AberDNA and Ayr United fans fundraising scheme.
The Ayr United scheme is the best of the lot. It is the easiest to make a donation or set up a monthly subscription as the full details of the bank account are listed on the Ayr United Football Club website. https://au500fund.com/

Think the cash is needed urgently and ring fencing it might in this particular set of circumstances might actually be a hindrance. Everyone who donates knows that their cash is going straight in to help the club and the areas of greatest need will get help.

If the cash was urgently needed then the club should have set up a fans fundraising scheme similar to the Ayr United au500fund.com instead of waiting until two supporters put forward their own plans for the fundraising scheme.
I still think that the 1893 Foundation is missing a trick by not also accepting ‘one off donations’ from supporters.
The name of the account, sorting code, account number and IBAN number could be listed on the club website under ‘Fundraising’ for donations from supporters including those who live outwith the UK.
