PL Dash 2020/2021 - Results of fixtures of 23/5/21.

The following set of fixtures was the PL Dash, the final matches of the "regular" PL competition and a stand-alone competition for a trophy in its own right.

Anyone who had taken part in the PL at any point this season was eligible to enter through predicting the scorelines for:

    (P) Arsenal v Brighton & Hove Albion (2-0)
    (P) Aston Villa v Chelsea (2-1)
    (P) Fulham v Newcastle United (0-2)
    (P) Leeds United v West Bromwich Albion (3-1)
    (P) Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur (2-4)
    (P) Liverpool v Crystal Palace (2-0)
    (P) Manchester City v Everton (5-0)
    (P) Sheffield United v Burnley (1-0)
    (P) West Ham United v Southampton (3-0)
    (P) Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United (1-2)

    The rules:

In the event of a tie for first place, the eventual Dash winner will be determined to be (in order) the poster with

    1) The most correct outcomes

    followed by

    2) The closest to the total number of goals scored (31)

    followed by

    3) The earliest to post (based on their last valid posting)

    So, here are the results:

Table is in format:- poster/points scored/number of correct outcomes/predicted number of goals

    MORRIM / 27 / 5 / 27
    CalverleyBoy / 27 / 5 / 21
    Hgatenasty / 27 / 3 / 23
    Whitestomper45 / 24 / 6 / 33
    Orgoner / 24 / 6 / 23
    Sniffer999 / 24 / 5 / 27
    Silentman / 24 / 4 / 24
    Cherrypie7 / 21 / 5 / 27
    Tichi1 / 21 / 5 / 25
    Dalek_Sec / 21 / 5 / 24
    Lufcjohn88 / 18 / 6 / 29
    Asturianblanco / 18 / 4 / 23
    Yeboah01 / 15 / 5 / 26
    Deklufc / 15 / 3 / 29
    Belper69Ram / 12 / 4 / 31
    Alfinyalcabo / 9 / 3 / 27

There were sixty points up for grabs from the final ten Premier League games but, with only the european spots carrying much significance, picking the outcomes was tricky enough and, as usual, exact scorelines were rarer than the proverbial rocking horse's scat.

Initially, there was a three way tie between last season's winner, CalverleyBoy (OxEOxEOxOO) and perennial contenders Hgatenasty (ExxOxEOxOE) & MORRIM (ExOOxOOxOE), with all three scoring twenty-seven points. Awesome effort!

However, since I'm far too cheap to buy three trophies, their final Dash rankings were determined by:

    1) The most correct outcomes

CalverleyBoy (five outcomes, two exact). Hgatenasty (three outcomes, three exact). MORRIM (five outcomes, two exact).

This dropped Hgatenasty into third place.

    2) The closest to the total number of goals scored

CalverleyBoy (21 goals). MORRIM (27 goals).

The number of goals scored was 31, so MORRIM was the closer to the actual total scored.

MORRIM is the official PL 2020/2021 Dash winner

Assuming I can get a shipping address out of him (I'll send a PM, mate!), he will be receiving a trophy in the post in the near(ish) future.

Many thanks to those of you who took the time to bother to enter and, assuming my brain isn't totally frazzled by the upcoming European Championships, the 19th version of the PL competition (with the corresponding Dash at the end) should start again later this year!

    All the best! Stay safe!
