IE first / last goal scorers. There's 20 teams to choose from so result will be more random. He could make it like a sweepstake and once the team is choose remove them from choice. There's several good ideas floating about
The handicap system worked a few season ago. Maybe after crimbo something could be introduced to close up the pack
Cayton, thanks for your ideas. They seem good and well intended. The problem bringing these in now the season is underway, may not though be accepted by others. I would have to put the question out there to see if there was any objection to a shake up in the New Year and see what the majority say.

If, no one objects, to using say a bonus bet where you chose a team to score the first/last goal, this getting you 5 extra points, all well and good. It wouldn't take me long to sift through that lot.

I also think it was CAMiller? who suggested having 3 'Joker' cards to use throughout the season, where if you chose a certain team to win and with the joker being played, your team wins, you would get 5 points for that. Again, it wouldn't be too hard to follow as I keep a log and would merely apply an asterisk for using a joker at the side of someone's name.

Keep the ideas coming the more the better all round, without your input i'd have little to go on to change/add anything, cheers Brin.

Nope not me Brin, all my suggestions are rational ones

Quite a few did point out the imbalance of the 3pts for a draw and 10pts for the goal 'guess' but we are running with it now so leave it be (or just change the 10pt bonus aspect every week to mix it up a bit but use equally as random logic e.g. if our game is one featured then how many corners we'll get, how many yellow cards in the 10 games features, how many red cards in the 10 games featured, guess the minute a goal will be scored in any of the 10 games and get 10pts if one (or more) is scored in that minute, predict the score of one of the games and get 10pts for a correct score....the list is long but as you know every one of them would take extra effort on your part to score)

I didn't think the ability to gain extra points was done to create separation, after all what does it matter if there are only a few points between players? I thought it was more to provide the incentive that if you fell 20-30 points behind and/or missed a week/weeks there was always a chance to catch up rather than jack it in.

CAMiller, some great suggestions here and like you say the choices are endless. Yes, it will take me longer to get through whatever I choose to throw in but, it keeps the grey matter flowing as they say .

Your point on , 'I didn't think the ability to gain extra points was done to create separation, after all what does it matter if there are only a few points between players? I thought it was more to provide the incentive that if you fell 20-30 points behind and/or missed a week/weeks there was always a chance to catch up rather than jack it in', I feel it serves both actually.

The table was far too stagnant last season so something had to be done to create a mini level of excitement as shown by Cayton and Millerstale to badger me last week, for delaying in posting the table, as they had both bagged the 10 bonus points.

I will but the feelers out a little later to see if others are willing to accept any extra incentives I wish to add, afterall, it will allow them to gain extra points and add to the excitement, cheers Brin.

Tbh brin it doesn't matter what bonus points you add the front runners can gain those points as well as the lower league players. Handicapping the front 3 could be a better option as this allows the pack to close up.

Cam I get way your saying but after 9 or 10 games last season the field was spread by a sim % as it is this season. Whatever the format the difference between first and last (%wise)

Cayton, acknowledging the fact you are indeed one of the front three, and it's a very generous offer from yourself, but I'm sure the other two wouldn't be so keen to have their score handicapped, so to speak, so others could catch up. It's a dog eat dog competition and may the best predictor win.

As promised, I've had a go at restating the rankings based on scores for match results only with the bonus points for guessing the goal tally removed. It seemed to me that it might be interesting to see who is actually best at predicting results without the "interference" of the lucky guesses on goals scored. (There is presumably an element of skill in getting the goals right but it's marginal and, in my view, significantly less than predicting match outcomes.)

Participants are ranked based on their full scores after week 8 - just as Brin's report shows. The actual accumulated points are shown nearest their names. Next I show the score without the bonus points accrued and then (in brackets) the ranking based on this 'match results only' score.

Not surprisingly there are some major shifts. While the top three in the competition proper remain in the top ten, Millersrus is currently top dog when it comes to predicting match results with Leedsmiller, currently in tenth place, moving up to second. CAM and Ackworth in joint eleventh place move up to joint third. Frog miller, on the other hand drops to twentieth from fourth when his success in guessing goal tallies is removed (sorry Frog!)

I think the data is pretty accurate but apologies in advance if I have anybody wrong.

Let me state again that this is purely for interest value. I am more than happy with the formula Brin established this season and there is no intention to detract from what we have in place.

CTMilller, Excellent work thank you. I hope folk can see their otherwise positions minus their "10 golden points' and realise their otherwise true status. Frog you're a fraud .

Glad to see myself as a play off contender at the very least.

Thanks for this and I'm looking forward to asking for a re think to the scoring in the New Year, if others are all in agreement to a shake up.

    WEEK 9

Well you try something new by bringing in the FA Cup fixtures and they cause mayhem. Two games were cancelled so another was brought in as a last replacement and, some didn't follow what to post so, missed out on possible extra points. Both rileyv.the third and Millerstale missed out adjusting their predictions by missing out on the Ipswich v Pompey result.

Can I please ask that you carefully read the P/L posts as they sometimes carry important information and you are only denying yourself the opportunity of scoring more points if you submit your predictions incorrectly. READ THE BOLD WRITING.

Millerstale still heads the table, with CaytonMiller still snapping at his heels.

The shout outs: Chesney Hawkes sang 'I am the one and only' and this weekend it applies to gm_gm who was the only one, to predict the goal tally being 29 goals. Well done as you bag the extra 10 points. This has now propelled you up the table.

Wooden spoon holders: In no particular order, Adventus2012, Ericsladkilnhurst, Back of the net,pip_y,and pocketrocket who all share the spoon this weekend for scoring 3 points.

No shows: Wendun. Think he's finally thrown the towel in.
