Prediction League table for 2020-2021 season

As Curtis Mayfield once sang, 'Move on up', Millerstale has done just that and shot to the top of the table! That's four new leaders since the season started, this shows the extra bonus points are indeed working and making it a more interesting table.

The shout outs: Last season's Champion, LeedsMiller, had an amazing score today bagging 15 points and, without the help of the bonus goal tally. Excellent score very well done indeed. An earlier struggler but clearly now finding his feet is Nardendee, as he scores 12 points along with AvondaleMiller, while AckworthMiller and Millerstale each scored 11 points each.

Bonus goal points: One winner only and that was AvondaleMiller who said 22 would be scored, well done.

Wooden spoon holders: Pocket is going to love this as with his eight points scored, it gets him off the foot of the table and he is replaced by rileyv.the.third, as he along with Ericslad, gm_gm, and Back of the net, score a big fat zero.

Right, I have finished my lunch so, the calculations are in. Millerstale maintains his position at the head of the table courtesy of his 10 point added bonus, I believe that's now three times he has achieved this. Take the 30 points off his score and things wouldn't look as rosy, however, he has bagged those points for being correct and that's what counts. Well done for maintaining the lead.

The shout outs: CAMiller, who without the aid of the extra ten points scored 10 points, well achieved. Not much more to mention as it was an average scoring week. I'm sure Watford wiped almost everyone out

Bonus goal points: Four winners this weekend with that magic number 24 popping up again! Cayton, Frog, Millerstale and the super pocket rocket, (as he climbed another seven places!) all bagged 10 extra points. Well done.

I'm totally happy with the format for this competition and Brin does a great job of getting each week's event set up and then updating the table promptly.

What I think would be interesting to see once in a while would be the scores without the ten pointers for guessing the goals. As has always been the argument, the bonus points stop the competition from becoming dull. Without them, the week by week results/rankings tend to change glacially slowly with many players on the same score.

Given that predicting results is a bit more of a skill than guessing goals, a parallel 'match results only' score would be an interesting measure of ability. It would only need to be published a few times each season to see the changes (and compare with the rankings for the main event.)

Brin has enough to do without running this as well but if there is enough interest I wouldn't mind using the data that's published to create this table a few times in the season.

Problem brin has is when the team pick is predictable. Like this week. Everyone will score very sim figures.
Think brin needs to set a few more random criteria.
IE first / last goal scorers. There's 20 teams to choose from so result will be more random. He could make it like a sweepstake and once the team is choose remove them from choice. There's several good ideas floating about
The handicap system worked a few season ago. Maybe after crimbo something could be introduced to close up the pack

Hi CTMilller, thank you for the kinds words. In all honesty I get great pleasure from running the P/L, plus it's a separate post/chance for those who wish to get involved that helps towards keeping this site alive. In reference to your points, I simply had to shake up the 'glacial slow' pace that last season's table delivered.

When you removed LeedsMiller, a worthy winner for his efforts, it was almost like a shoal of sperm racing to fertilise the egg with no clear runner! In all honesty, the extra 10 points this season for the goal tally, hasn't totally been accepted, however, it has split the table. The rules were there before a ball was kicked pre season and, I asked more than once for input on how to make the P/L more competitive this season, alas there wasn't a lot forthcoming so I ran with it.

The results that have been gained this season from the bonus 10 points have however, now prompted/generated several good ideas and, I will be looking to put some of these into effect. That will make it really competitive and more interesting for all who enter next season.

Your offer to use the data that's published to create a table a few times in the season, which would reflect it without the extra 10 points, would probably show a stark effect and is more than welcome. I look forward to you publishing this.

Many who have bagged the extra 10 points, myself included, may be in for a rude awakening as to how we have performed without them.
