    Barnsley FCs future at Oakwell

    Barnsley FC’s Future at Oakwell

24 hours ago the Daily Mail reported that Barnsley Football Club were exploring the possibility of playing home games away from Oakwell and the town of Barnsley.

BFCST are overwhelmingly against any such move and are speaking to all parties concerned to bring clarity to the situation and offer assurances that there are no risks to continuing the 133 year association between Barnsley FC and the town.

We contacted Dane Murphy and Robert Zuk earlier today to seek a response to the Daily Mail article and to ask if a future away from Oakwell for the football club was a realistic possibility. Unfortunately we’ve yet to receive a response, but are committed to updating supporters with as much information as we receive it.

In the interim, whilst dialogue continues with the relevant parties, supporters can see the full EFL rules around ground registration here. This makes it clear that any switch of venue for home games, permanently or temporarily, requires EFL approval, and to quote reference point 13.6.2 the EFL shall not grant consent unless it is reasonably satisfied that such consent would be appropriate, having in mind the relationship (if any) between the locality with which by its name, or otherwise the applicant Club, is traditionally associated and that in which such Club proposes to establish its ground.

    Further update to follow.

The supporters trust is our trade union and we need them to step up .

I'd suggest some media appearances from them wouldn't go a miss which would publicise what's going on here and themselves as a group .

It's unlikely given the court case the Cryne's or the ownership will be commenting too much and that's not going to ease fans concerns .

The present owners have previous with disputes with a 20% shareholder who was the full owner before they rocked up.

I refer M'Lord to the case of OGC Nice.

It resulted to significant fan unrest until they sold up.

You can absolutely rest assured that will not happen. The very reason the Rotherham Titans do not play at Millmoor (as they desperately wanted to do given the annual wranglings they have with Rotherham Town cricket club at Clifton Lane) is due to the costs of:

    (a) bringing the old girl up to the requisite safety standards, and
    (b) agreeing a lease/rental agreement with the controlling Booth family.

Given that Barnsley FC's owners don't yet appear to have made the full purchase payments for the club to the Cryne family, I highly doubt they would be able to agree a financial settlement with the Booths. If they think negotiating with the Crynes is fractious just wait until they sit in a meeting room with Ken and James Booth. The Booths are like the Doyles, but with a lot more money!

    Won't happen.

In one they are threats just like what happens in American football which is the norm hoping crynes and the council back down and they get complete ownership ,it happens in yankee land unfortunately for them FA and EFL rules are more stringent and they haven't got a chance

Conway's reaction to not gerrin his hands on Oakwell is to threaten to make Oakwell a costly white elephant for the Crynes and the Council with no team playing there and to hope to pressure a sale.

The Consortium couldn't give a flying rook abart the fans, the staff who work at Oakwell, or the economic effect on the local community on match days.

As they haven't paid the Crynes the purchase money owed do they legally own the club ? Just asking. If thee or me didn't pay the agreed instalments on a car would we still own it ?
