alf ---the guy actually cleared the ball and it was just his follow through which caught JBG. It looked bad ---and it was ---however, I don't think that there was any intent, it was just one of those things but it usually is punished these days.

Caption under a photo on the BBCSport website,

"David McGoldrick gave Burnley the lead inside the first five minutes of the game"

    Typical BBC, fecking clueless.

I have to agree with that, apart from the challenge, where is the ball ?

I would say that sort of challenge is always punished these days Sub, not just usually, unless you have incompetent officials, and there's no accounting for them.

None of it matters though, Joey's out for the duration and a red card wouldn't alter that.

map --the ball had been wellied by the Sheff United player just prior to that still photo and it was probably in row Z in the Bob Lord stand. JBG arrived slightly late and was caught in the follow through. The result was an injury to JBG and play was restarted with a throw in to Burnley.
Only the Sheffield United player knows whether or not he intended to catch his opponent. It was a strange thing these days because the officials actually thought that, unusually, the ball mattered! The ball was played fair and square, as it has been on many other occasions, however, this time the officials did not consider that it was reckless, he was out of control or constituting a danger to his opponent.
Strangely, a similar challenge last week, sorry I can't recall the game, saw a yellow card given when a player had won the ball fair and square.
