We have struggled all season against teams that roll their sleeves up and get stuck in physically, Accies, Killie, St. MIrren, Morton we do not have players who are prepared to fight tooth and nail for every ball. As things appear at present half the players look as if they are planning to be playing elsewhere next season then they are going to give nothing until the end of the season

We could be on the same page ... GA decides he'll stick with what he's got on the pitch for as long as he can. He's demonstrating to the Bean Counters that our 'cavalry' on the bench are pi5her than those playing !

He has no alterenative. Robbo’s legacy of a bloated / untalented squad of phuds has came back to haunt.
    Q. Where are the January loan players ?
Many players current squad know being released in summer and appears 'care not a jot' and apparent our mid-week display.
The season run-in is going to be pretty,

No smart @rsed bumping of this thread by the usual suspect tonight?

Yet again we showed that we have not an ounce of bottle when it really matters in these situations.

It was on the to-do list, honest!

I do love how it only really matters when we lose.

Edit to include our record: 8 wins 9 losses (8-8 in knock-out games).

It doesn’t only really matter when we lose. I said as much last week on this very thread that we wouldn’t beat a side like Hibs in the same situation that we beat Morton and I was right. When the stakes are higher, our bottle crashes and that’s what happened tonight.

The notion that one penalty going post and out rather than half a foot the other way to be post and in defines the 'bottle' of a whole club is absolutely mental. You could say that coming back from 2-0 down away to the side third in the league is a much fairer reflection of character, bottle whatever than one shot missing by a fraction.

It's a shoot-out, someone has to miss, someone has to lose. We'd won two already this season, there wasn't much in this one either but it wasn't to be.

Our record, over a period of decades, is basically bang on what you would expect.

That’s like going down the usual and tired road of “penalties are a lottery”. They are not and never have been. They are about your takers holding their nerve and scoring from a free shot from twelve yards.

It matters not a jot that we came back from 2-0 down in open play just like it mattered not a jot when we got back to 4-4 against St.Mirren last year, because we failed to hold our nerve in the resulting shootout both times.

Novak Djokovic once lost the final of a slam by double faulting and was asked afterwards if the pressure got to him. He laughed it off and said sometimes you just miss.

The same happens in a shoot-out, sometimes you just miss. Indeed, someone must miss.

You have absolutely no idea if that was down to bottle or not and even if it was in the case of a player or two, the notion that defines a whole club is as stupid as it was a year ago.

Novak Djokovic has won numerous Championships in tennis. Of course he’s lost a few as well but he has more than proved himself.

Have we ever won a penalty shootout against a club in the top flight? Or a bigger club? I don’t think we have.

We as a club lack bottle and that inevitably rubs off onto the players wearing our jerseys. It may well be subconscious, but if you are constantly drip fed the nonsense about how we are a ‘wee club’ and that we are “punching above our weight” then that will affect your mentality.

Had that been Hearts playing Hibs last night, in a Cup quarter final and been 2-0 down, came back to 2-2 and the game gone to penalties, Hearts would have won the shootout, I have absolutely no doubt about that. They have dominated Hibs for decades in the Edinburgh derby and frequently humiliated and tormented them and that would have (perhaps) subconsciously affected the Hibs players in the same way it affected ours last night and last February against St.Mirren.
