Delaying the start of the season would surely mean that any affected games would have to be postponed and the season extended to accommodate? Otherwise there would be more fixture congestion having to fit in rearranged games.

Who knows what will happen between now and the 3rd October as this is a changing situation on almost a daily basis.

The other challenge facing clubs and leagues this season will be any players that test positive during the season. It’s happened at Leyton Orient according to media reports today.

As many have predicted the situation is simply going to worsen between now and next summer so football needs to get to grips with the new normal or close down. There'll be no improvement by delaying. Get on with pay as you go live streaming, as many spectators as is reasonable. I've given up hope of resuming my normal activities which involves mainly older folk such as myself in a closed space followed by a pint at the nearest hostelry. At least I've managed to see some family face to face over the summer.

Dan Roan at the BBC is saying no fans in October for the leagues and elite.

He didnt say NL or NL north/south but I guess we wont start.

Expect the York game to now be BCD.

BBC Radio is reporting that the National League season won’t be starting on 3 October.

This seems to be a lame response to a situation which was entirely foreseeable. Surely a comprehensive programme of live streaming, covering all clubs, would bring in some revenue? Shutdown brings in none, but with wages etc. still to be paid, most of clubs’ outgoings will still have to be met.

That's that then. If it can't start now it's not going to start in the winter when the virus will have picked up pace.

The fact the NL have not sorted out streaming is ridiculous.

This. They are not really protecting anything with their current stance, just slowly killing clubs.

The national league need to pull their finger out and get on with setting up a decent steaming service on a season ticket / pay per view basis. It's less than ideal and its a significant drop in revenue but nearly all national league clubs will have general overheads and players under contract so will have significant outgoings regardless of whether the season starts or not.

The concern is a significantly delayed start will have a knock-on effect to next season and have the league out of sync with the EFL.

Trust Notts to find ourselves here after all those seasons in the league.

They would. However clubs can cut back as much as possible as well as paying players there basic. Most will have add ons including appearance money.
There is a real chance this season gets knocked on the head. There is no way that the National League would consider splitting the league in 2 so teams can play less games but still have a chance of promotion and of course relegation.
I wonder if League 1 and 2 will halt the league?

What should have happened is ALL leagues should have started say Dec/Jan time to line up with Qatar 2022.

The NL are pretty poor granted we found that out last season but this sh*tshow is down to the idiot "running" the country.

Hopefully Dan Roan is wrong but its unlikely he is.

League one and below are screwed with this news.
