    The Guitar.

Too late for me but if I had my time over again I’d definitely have learned to play guitar as a kid.

I found this clip tonight of Cutting Crew doing a rework of there mid 80’s hit “I just died in your arms tonight” and the intro is superb.

The whole track is masterfully reworked and well worth a listen......and there was me thinking they were just some bunch of lightweights with big hair back in the day.

The guitar though.........there’s no other instrument to compare when it comes to making the hairs on your neck stand on end and I envy anyone who can play like this guy,

One of the things that has given me great satisfaction in recent years is learning to play guitar. Until this Covid stuff closed everything down, I was playing in a music group every week and also played in a band in a one off gig at The Stables in Milton Keynes. I was also playing ukulele in a group, we had loads of gigs lined up for this year, all cancelled. So, in the past three months I have learned to play the bass guitar, very satisfying. Whether I ever get the chance to perform in public, who knows? Anyone up for a WBA-MAD band? Whenever!

I’m up for that Kets 😎

I’d need to be the singer though because I can’t play anything.

I can do a Barry Gibb type vocal as I have quite a high singing voice.

Did some Karaoke in a hotel a few years ago and got an ovation at the end 😆

Your so vain by Carly Simon and Paper Back Writer by The Beatles I think.

    Quite a repertoire.

I have messed about with different guitars on and off since I was four****. I am now 67 and I still cannot do bar chords. I can play a few easy songs but I have come to accept I ain't ever really gonna get any better than I am now. So I pick the guitar up when I have a few minutes and mess about. That is good enough for me. I would not embarrassment myself trying to play in public.

Nice aspect to the bass guitar is that you don’t have to use barre chords!

Not to late to learn the guitar Mick, i was in my 50s when i took it up and i've got damaged hands.
I learned off You- Tube, had a couple of lessons but he was a poor teacher. A lot of learning to play is muscle memory, once you learn your fingers to hold a chord then you learn to move to another chord.
After a couple of weeks it becomes natural.
Your finger tips on your finger tips will crack on your fretting hand till you build up calaces.
It's a great hobby to unwind, wish i had taken it up when I was young like my twin brother.
An electric guitar, I found easier to play, due to hand problems I struggle with an acoustic guitar.
Most people give up after a couple of weeks, just keep at it.

Yes, electric guitars are generally easier to learn on as they tend to have a lower action (distance between strings and frets) than acoustic guitars. As for getting used to playing barre chords, open tuning the guitar (open D, for example) I found to be helpful as only one finger is required to play major chords.
