Football should call the government's bluff.
Make a statement that all clubs are organizing anti-racist/BLM protests inside stadiums next Saturday afternoon. No restriction on numbers.
The police will be powerless because it's apparently now the law that they cannot intervene if the cause is racism. If any cops turn up, just chant "Take the knee, take the knee" and down they go.

Obviously I'm not being serious, it's clearly far safer to have people huddled together indoors watching games in pubs.

That statement tells us everything and nothing.

It’s an absolute shambles that with less than seven days until the start of the season the National League finds itself in this position.

Six months have passed since the last competitive league fixtures were played. (Excluding the playoffs)

Fans not being allowed back into stadiums by October should not really have come as a surprise.

The National League have had six months to meet with clubs, government ministers, other bodies like the FA and EFL. Not forgetting broadcasters like BT and streaming companies to discuss how the league could operate this season at least partly without fans attending games.

Let’s hope it all gets resolved this week.

    This bit stood out:

"Without any plans being made to rescue football clubs, many in the EFL and others in the National League as well, are now actively preparing to make all but essential staff redundant, cease playing, close down their youth academies and community foundations, and put their business into administration," Dowden and Huddleston are told.

Meanwhile, 20,000 at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi yesterday:

Anyone else now finding it weird watching games where fans ARE allowed in? I watched some of the Bayern-Seville game last week and found it disconcerting to have actual people moving in the stands.

If we’re not allowed back, can we please do this at Notts too?

I'm going OT here but after watching MOTD last night, we're not even playing the same game as the PL and other top leagues anymore. I think we have actually reached the stage now where we can say that if VAR was in use in the EFL, every result without exception would be different to the one's we're seeing without, the interference is that extreme. The game is being torn apart and everything we loved about it is being tossed into the bin.

The stats on penalties and those given for hand ball compared to this stage last season were staggering. They may as well call it the Penalty League and just replace outfield play with 5 sets of penalty shoot outs where you have to win a set by two clear pens. What is the purpose of the linesman now? I just heard somebody say, "the game is being adapted to the tech rather than the tech being adapted to the game". Never mind money, how can the pyramid survive playing two different codes? We're going to end up with a Rugby League v Rugby Union situation.

Premier League clubs to vote on how to end season if coronavirus sees it cut short
Surely this should have been done before the season began.

I don't suppose the NL will bother deciding what to do until 3 months after it happens.

You’d think if any issue in every league would have been sorted by now, it’d be that one. But no.
