Hmm.....difficult to tell with a short duration knockout tournament like the World Cup. The luck of the draw and the standard of the opposition can make a team look better than they actually are.

Having said that the 1970 Brazilians had Carlos Alberto, one of the best defenders of all time.

Yes - a great defender - well, attacking defender, who finished off a great move. Good points raised - playing over a longer period, other sides have time to prepare and adjust

Certainly, if a defence is easily breached then winning anything is going to be tricky
