    Champs - simple fact.
He was NOT crap last season.
His influence tailed off towards the end, but he is a calm figure who is good at ensuring possession.
With a full squad, he will be some way down the pecking-order.
He will be behind Holtby, Rothwell, Rankin-Costello, Dack, Travis, Johnson, Evans, Trybull and perhaps even Buckley.
As a winger, he would be competing with Elliott, Dolan and Chapman. He certainly won't be played in the Brereton role.
However, we have an inexperienced squad, plagued with injuries and illness. Mowbray clearly trusts Downing. He is versatile and brings a wealth of experience to the training-ground.
You are determined to find fault with everything and anything at the moment, so your view is hardly objective.

Downing cant play tonight. He will be back when Rothwell, Johnson, are both back. Who will go in alongside Davenport, Evans, Trybull, Holby.
He isnt match fit so will not be included until after the international break. By then most will be back. Dack will be a few weeks away by then.

So who exactly does Downing replace when all fit? Travis will be back in Jan. So again, full squad, who misses out for Downing?

Your determined to take the opposite stance of everyone at the moment despite failing results, why do you feel you are the voice of reason?
We where poor last season. The season pettered out into nothing. Downing played in almost every game. Why didnt he make an impact last season?
Will he now onet step closer to retirment?

Finally, why did no other league club in England take him up on his contract? His agent touted him about. He refused our deal. Wanting better elsewhere.
Once he found out nobody wanted him, he came back to our offer.
    And thats good business?
I'll ask again, who does he play instead of when they are all fit?

Charlie Mulgrew!1 Have they learned nothing!!??
I keep hearing people tell me how great he was last season. Yet played every game almost and failed to make any kind of positive iumpact. Now a year older and now I am being told he will be good to put in during an injury crisis? Like exactly now? That would make sense.
What makes no sense is he wont play now. As we have signed a guy nobody wanted, not one single club. Who can't be play now. As he hasnt kicked a ball since May. So is miles off being match fit.
Right now he would probably be needed.
By the time he is fit, most others will.
So my question again, when they are all fit, and back, which player misses out to fit Downing in?
    This is ridiculous business.
This just an old boys club with jobs for mates. Danny Graham, Bennett, Mulgrew, Smallwood, now Downing. Johnson aswell.
These players are all on decent money, and where kept well past their sell buy date.
Yet we are still going ahead and doing these deals.

Mowbray made it clear that he comes in because it doesn't have a major impact on the finances.
As I said, he is not just there for match-day purposes.
In any case, look what injuries and illness are doing to the club. We may well need him!

Fair enough. It feel to be like an old boys club to me.
Maybe one of the reasons we are just either sitting still, and now going backwards?
At least he isn't a hugely expensive flop like Brereton and Gallagher, and one that will destroy our finances.
He was a poor signing imo. But nowhere near the worst.
We appear to suffer more injuries than any club. Have more players due to Covid than any other club. So maybe he will have to be used.
